Its funny how a 6' goalie is considered small now. Back in the day he'd of looked like Chara was playing net.

To me it's weird how this fanbase talks itself into positions where having Wolf up is actually bad, because he might be good. "We actually want to lose and he might win which screws up our plans" mentality. The thing is a rebuild is something that happens against your will. If the prospects you have can make you not bad, every org in the league would take that.
|
You have to give credit to Huska too. He's willing to put the prospects in game 1 of their call up rather than letting them watch from the press box for 2 weeks.

I think Wolf stood on his toes when he was measured at 6’
Saros looks bigger than him.

My theory; Markstrom is banged up, Vladar will be showcased for a future trade, and Wolf is here to play backup.

I hope this means we see Wolf get a start in a meaningful NHL game and he’s not just up for injury insurance.

I would say that he's been slightly better then last year (factoring in the play in front of him) but I wouldn't proclaim him "solid".

The team's expected goals against with Markstrom in net has gone up from 2.75/60 all situations last year to 3.29/60 this year. Up 20%
His hd shots against have gone up from 8.23/60 to 9.75/60. Up 18.5%.
He has to play significantly better to hold his numbers flat season over season.

Showcased? And this is honestly for anyone, not picking on you. But what exactly do you guys think the value is for Vladar? He had 1 average season when you guys were a really good team and aside from a nice W/L record even then, his stats were just meh. Aside from that, he bounced a lot between the ECHL and AHL and has had otherwise not great numbers really anywhere.
I've given up trying to understand why people are OK keeping the 2 time AHL goalie of the year off the roster, I would settle for just understanding why the trade value of Dan Vladar is such a high priority for this fan base.

I'll take some of the paste you've been eating!
When you are no good against the No Goods you don't deserve to be our starting goalie.
|
If a player is playing for the Flames I generally hope he plays well and helps the team succeed, and don't throw in a playoff series from two years ago to continue to make the claim that he sucks when lately he hasn't.
You be you though!

Only 25 games 4 seasons ago. What makes you think that is the normal? 58 NHL games since then. .896 average.

Yeah, I just don't think Wolf is that fragile. This has always struck me as an extremely low-risk situation.

You said he didn't have great numbers anywhere, he does though
Also that was 19/20 season, season cancelled so only 25 games
Guy just turned 26, he will be a good goalie for someone it would be stupid to give him away.

Let's not overstate things. The fact is that he's still not stopping shots at an acceptable rate (thus far) and hence not solid. As bad as last year? No, but there is a huge divide between "as bad as last year" and "solid"... a divide he has yet to bridge.

I don't view it as much as fragile, but mostly that if he can't get locked in right away in his limited chances that he'll be viewed by fans and the team as 'not ready' and lose another full season in the AHL.
