I think OG'S value as a 3 and D guy likely peaked last year, but this is still a decent return. Like others have mentioned IQ is the big piece coming back.

I don’t think it’s silly at all. The Raps are still a bottom feeder. The hope is Barrett turns around his game with some coaching and opportunity on a new team but I’m not sure he’s a real starter. He’s a trade chip possibly. Seems to be a win win in that the Raps received some serviceable assets with a bit of upside, at the expense of high contracts and the Knicks get a defensive specialist who they’ll likely pay at free agency. I don’t think it’s a slam dunk for anyone, but I think for the Raps there’s a level of risk.

I'll miss OG a lot, but this is a really good trade... two young guys who are solid starters with several seasons of contract control. Barrett came in with a lot of expectations and was developed for a certain role, but then the trade for Brunson really changed that up and he became a less good fit. He is a smart connective passer in a way that OG is not, and I can see a Quickley/Barrett/Barnes/Siakam/Poeltl unit having exceptional passing potential, and the shooting is about equal between Quickley/Barrett, and Schroder/OG... We'll miss OG's defense overall, but even that wasn't really clicking lately.
Tonight's going to be rough though... what's the rotation?
Poeltl/Siakam/Barnes/GTJ/Schroder
Boucher/Young/McDaniels/Dick/OPJ
Second night of a back-to-back with both on the road, down to the wire last night, an early game (4pm MST) tonight... Detroit with all the motivation in the world to not lose... I won't even be too pissed if Raptors lose tonight, I'm excited about this trade and glad they didn't wait to pull it even if it ends up resulting in an ignominious defeat tonight.
checked to see if the G-league guys might be available, but they played in Mississauga at noon... could you get them to Detroit for gametime?

Guessing Siakam goes pretty quickly too.

That would be a pretty strong return as well. He is a unique talent.

Seeing a lot of Dallas and GS as a Siakam option. With Wiggins and Kuminga as pieces in those trades.

I'm skeptical of a Siakam trade in the short term... I do think that the Warriors are a really good fit for Siakam and have some great trade pieces... But I think this might be like the Rudy Gay trade, where it's one toe into a rebuild, but also giving a different look to the team that might end up fitting together better.

On the surface it gives them some pieces and options for a year to again go for it. But I don’t think that team would be enough. On the other hand gives them a lot of options for assets to deal which would be intriguing. Not a fan of Wiggins and not sure what to think of Kuminga as I haven’t seen enough of him.

I think ultimately from the Warriors, you want three out of Kuminga, Moody, Podziemski, and a FRP*, and then the Warriors can add whichever filler they want (which could be Wiggins or Paul or even Klay) for Siakam. If you can't get that sort of package from them or someone else, then re-sign Siakam and see what the market looks like next year.
*They'd likely need to trade a second-rounder to Memphis to remove protections on their pick this year, to free up a tradeable pick.

In many ways I’m scared the trade makes them better in the near term. They have a quality issue as well as a quality with depth issue. This helped address the depth part. If any other deal for Siakam goes through where there are quality pieces coming back they’ll be better. It’s in our interest to tank this year as much as possible. I’m all for a deal but I hope a Siakam one is at the deadline.

Not sure I love this trade. OG is a prime asset right now and you get Quickley and a high second basically? RJ Barrett at this point is filler. I’d feel a lot better if the pick they got was a first, even if it was lottery protected.

Siakam is not getting all those three players. More likely Kuminga and a couple first rounders. Maybe another more raw player but they’re not giving up Podz and Moody on top of Kuminga. Warriors are in win now mode so first round picks have less worth for them then their top bench players.

Embarrassing loss in the abstract, but with the goal now to get that top 6 pick it's a useful loss.

They've only got one FRP to trade though. Kuminga and one FRP doesn't get them Siakam.

Don’t they have all three of 27-29? And even for the next three years they just have one lost pick although it’s an unsettled one that keeps getting more valuable if Warriors draft high. I’m not sure how a trade that is unsettled over a 3 year span works. But the warriors have kept most of their picks compared to other teams.
