There's a bit of a bias in the industry so Xbox exclusives get put under the microscope more than Sony or Nintendo. Does anyone think IGN is giving Deathloop a 10/10 if it was an Xbox exclusive? Don't get me wrong as I liked the game but it was nowhere near a 10/10 and yet this timed Sony exclusive got glowing reviews. Gamers largely regard it as one of the more overrated games in recent years because it's simply not a 10/10 game or even 9/10 game.
Why is there a bias? Is because they don't like how Microsoft does business or something?

I started off my first 50 hours playing it like Oblivion where I avoided Kvatch like the plague and just went off to the side and did all the side stories for 5 years.
I heard recently it's better to actually play the main story in this particular game because the main story beats will take you to all the places logically and teach you things about the universe that you can miss out on.
With Skyrim, Fallout 4 and now this I always play the main quest for a few missions just to get situated in the world and have some base knowledge, where I'm at with Starfield now I'm more comfortable doing little quests, building ships and I haven't started with my bases yet.

I avoided the main quest since it popped up a warning that I would be locked with Sarah. Can I do some main quest and then switch her out/drop her for other companions later to pause main quest?

She only locks for the duration of the quest and then unlocks. If you already have another companion active Sarah would not replace that companion.
Dirty to see all the Edmonton stuff but maybe there's some ex-Bioware at Bethesda? There's a full dish of food named the Edmontonian in the game that looks like a bunch of pierogies as well.

Reviewers aren’t purposefully giving Xbox exclusive games lower scores, that’s just silly. What possible incentive would there be for a review to do this? Deathloop has a meta critic score of 88. Starfields is an 83.

Money. I'm not accusing anyone of faking a review, but the idea that these corporations are paying reviewers is not outside the realm of possibility.
I'm certain they already pay for glowing reviews. The opposite could be true too.

Spoiler!
You're locked with Sarah than with Sam Coe, I'd say it's worth getting passed those missions. That's where I kind of settled in

You think Sony is paying off journalists to purposefully lower scores on Microsoft titles? Come on, even the more critical reviews of Starfield still say it’s a very good game.
Isn’t it more likely that Starfield is just a good to great game and not a great to revolutionary one?

Come on man, this is fanboy talk. There's plenty of Sony and Nintendo exclusives that get mixed / divisive reviews as well.
When Microsoft releases a 10/10 game, they'll get the scores. Just hasn't happened for a while.
Haven't read this thread but from what I've seen on the YouTubes.. dosent seem like a great game. Seems like a fall out 4 mixed with mass effects. I've just never been able to get into their catalog. Wolfinstien almost ... fall out 4 almost . Doom . Never . I don't know what it is but they just never hit what I'm into. Im like 50% done ghost wire and I only play it because I feel I have to to justify my 20 bucks I spent.
The stories are meh. Ita not like a rdr2 story or ac: brother hood story . A spiderman or horizon zero story arch etc etc....
The story sucks . Bestesda stories are boring and suck.

The crazy thing about games is people have such a varied experience with the same game. I have never enjoyed a Ubisoft/AC game including the highly rated Brotherhood which I didn't find the story to be great by any means.
When it comes to games, I hate online/youtube reviews, I prefer to play the game myself before I make any judgement. I was not a fan of the Fallout franchise except for the IMO awesome New Vegas, and always had a great time with Elder Scrolls games going back to Morrowind.
But to get to Starfield, the game IMO is so much fun and your right, the game is not great it is awesome! The story is intriguing so far...but I get caught up in random things that pop up and I love it! Some of the random things that have happened to me so far have just been so cool . You can do practically anything you want. Explore, Pirate, police, smuggle, heck you can even just be glorified space farmer/trucker.
For example, my buddy was showing me his outposts to generate resources across the game, he would then stop at one of them load up all the available resources and haul them to sell off. He even had a nice group of greenhouses to farm food for consumption and sale.
I assume you have made up your mind about the game but if you have a PC/XBox and gamepass, there is no reason not to give it a shot if you have some free time to dedicate to the game.

I'm not saying they are paying anyone, just that I could see why they would pay someone to do it, and by extension why someone would write a purposefully negative review. And that it wouldn't (or shouldn't) be overly surprising.
Sony's bread and butter has always been their exclusive titles. If Microsoft starts to swing the pendulum that doesn't bode well for their future console sales.
Are they for sure doing it? Probably not. But crazier things have happened.

I was just thinking this with regards to some of the takes on this game - no way it's less than a 9 out of 10 based on my experience, so seeing 7's and below fly around has been gnarly (review bombing notwithstanding). It's been an absolute home run for me and I'm now deep in to new game plus. I sunk decent time in to some of Bethesda's previous RPG's but Starfield has essentially destroyed my life the past couple weeks and rendered me a cave-dwelling troll that any family would be ashamed of. I love the "lived-in" and somewhat grounded aesthetic of the world, and as much as I love the Mass Effect franchise, I'm glad they didn't go down the road of sprinkling in too much space magic or multiple intelligent alien species.
It's crazy how 2 hours can fly by when you're just doing something like tweaking your ship. I suppose that somewhat answers the question of how it may not be someone's bag, as if you merely mainline the primary quests and play it through like a normal game, the experience would probably be underwhelming relative to a polished, curated, linear title like God of War. If space botany's your thing though, fully all of Sony's exclusive games are 0 out 10.
IGN gave Fallout 4 a 9.5 out of 10, so it isn't like they just hate Bethesda.
I got a lot of mileage out of that one on PC. For whatever reason, it doesn't play well on PS5 though. It either crashes or get game breaking bugs, like all of a sudden not being able to interact with objects.
