They are dumb if they get rid of Boterill. Her technical knowledge, keen observations, and ability to articulate it clearly to the audience are among the best in the industry in my opinion.
When they let her do her own thing, yes.
But on HNIC, they dictate the story, and she has to backfill to justify it. And I don't find her great at that (but then, who would be?)

Edit: just have Bieksa mug to the Camera like Jim as they go at it.
I'm telling you, the ratings would be off the charts!!
Get some guest panelists on there, I'm hearing that Alex Galchenyuk is looking at some significant free time. He might have to log-in by Zoom, I'm not sure what the rules are there.

At this point I think they might as well just play the Log Drivers waltz at intermissions. Most people will go to YouTube to find who they want to watch or if it's recorded just skip thru. At least with the Waltz some seniors might watch and explain what it is to the grand kids.

Sucks for everyone but Ron Maclean. That guy was pathetic. He did some great dodging of Don Cherry his meal ticket when he was fired and sold him down the river. Now he just sits there waiting to drop pun after awful pun while stroking McDavids jank. See ya.

I don't really care if things change. I'm just one of those guys that's happy I can watch the game. That's my focus, not any of the pre or post game stuff and certainly not the intermissions.
I think that CBC could and should be involved in the bidding the next time around. And TSN and some streaming platforms as well.
Getting Hockey Night in Canada back properly (and not just carrying it for Rogers and making nothing on it) fits with the CBC's mandate of providing content relevant to Canadians, they could make money off of the advertising again (thus lowering their reliance on taxpayer funding), and they did actually have a good quality product.
So get CBC and TSN back in the mix. The more competition, the better.
Wait, so we don’t like Oiler propaganda, but we are ok with the king of propaganda (the CBC)?
If the CBC is back, it’s only going to be more Oiler circle jerk. F the Oilers and F the CBC.

This 100% describes me. Gambling addiction is real, and I certainly don't want my kid seeing it. Unlike alcohol, you don't just grab your phone and push a button and have a bottle suddenly appear in front of you.
It's one thing to show commercials, and I'm fine with that - but they talk about it during the play, and during short stoppages.
I have some alternative means that allow just the live feed without commentary or commercials, and regrettably that's by far the majority of my viewing time now. I'd much rather pay for a league endorsed version.
You should go back to the Oilers fan board if you think the CBC isn't the Oiler propaganda machine.
The CBC hasn’t produced HNIC broadcasts since before McDavid was even drafted, nor received any ad revenue from them. The McDavid love-in is all Rogers.

All sports broadcasters in all leagues have a mandate to pump up the superstars. It’s why CBS, FOX, etc. gush about Patrick Mahomes. And why the NBA and its broadcasters won’t shut up about Giannis.
There’s no conspiracy. As long as he’s the biggest star in the NHL, the media will gush about McDavid every chance they get. And when Bedard tops the scoring race, they’ll move on to raving about him in every broadcast. It’s their job.
I can’t imagine how much people around here would have griped about unfairness back when Gretzky was suiting up for the Oilers. How dare SNL invite Gretzky to host the show instead of Hakan Loob!

I agree but it's got a pretty extreme on HNIC especially in the playoffs where the panel is extremely biased towards the Oilers. When the Leafs lose you don't hear near the amount of whining about the officiating and all that on the panel. Then you have guys like Friedman every year constantly pining for the NHL to have officials call more penalties against Oilers opponents when a player touches McDavid. You don't hear him talk about Matthews in that way. It's pretty over the top IMO.
