Can't quote you Bax for some reason:
There is obvious logic in having Hall play with Bedard. However, I can't name a contender who wouldn't be incredibly interested in Hall today at 50% retention. 2 full seasons of Hall at 3 million a season - that's a bargain, and in a cap world, bargains give your teams a huge advantage.
The Hawks can just flip Hall for someone younger (but experienced as well) to play alongside Bedard, and still get a high pick too. I think they can get more for Hall this year than next season.

You’re not wrong about plenty of teams having interest in Hall at 50%, but who is giving up a young and experienced player in addition to a high pick for him? What would that deal look like?
If you’re Chicago getting Hall to play with and mentor Bedard is far more important than adding another pick. They are set to pick 19 times in the first 3 rounds over the next three drafts. One more pick isn’t going to do anything significant for them.

If they trade Hall, it would be at the trade deadline next year.
Their motivation is getting him is to play with Bedard.
it was an obvious trade the moment Chicago won the lottery.

Chicago getting Hall and Foligno kind of reminds me of Pittsburgh in Crosby's first season. Besides Mario, they surrounded him with veterans such as LeClair, Recchi, Palfy and Gonchar. The team was still pretty bad but I'm sure those players had a good influence for Crosby in terms of teaching him how the pros work.

I guess we will see what happens there. I haven't heard anything about it, but I can't imagine that Hall is happy. He took a bit of a discount to play in Boston and compete for a cup. That was his goal, and I don't think that's changed.

Why not?
Knows what it’s like to be a first overall pick in a hockey market.
Over 800 games played
Played in a variety of situations (good teams and bad teams)
Just spent a year with arguably the best leader in hockey
It actually seems like the perfect fit for what the Hawks are looking for.

I assume he is delighted.
Goes from playing third line minutes with 2nd PP time to 1st line and 1st PP time with Bedard.

Foligno signed a 1 year $4 million contract?!?
Is Lucic going to get the same money?

I doubt it. Chicago is in a unique position. And they wanted Foligno.
