Not really.
Extending Huberdeau and Weegar in the summer before waiting to see how they fit and how the team played was a mistake - it removed any flexibility they might have had, it cost them at least two 1st round picks, and combined with the Kadri signing, has locked up nearly 30% of their cap.
I don’t think Conroy’s going to make that same mistake with Lindholm and Hanifin.

In hindsight yes for Hubby, but no for Weegar.
I would say that Weegar would likely get a better contract today than he actually has.
Hubby, for sure. But there is risk either way.

That's easy to say in hindsight. There was no way they were going to wait and see how they did in the season. It was sign or trade them in the summer. I wasn't against flipping them but was also pumped when they signed. Could you imagine the uproar if Huebrdeau had a 100pt season and then walked.

Leave that guy in Winnipeg or let him go somewhere else. He's no good.

I think if the Flames did trade Hanifin, their lack of D depth would be exposed pretty quickly.
Interesting to think what they could get for him, he’s a high value asset. But I think extending him is the preferred choice.

For me, you either re-sign the two guys from Carolina or you sell off both guys.
If Conroy receives an offer he can't refuse he might as well go for a haul now while he appears to be a hot commodity.

I’m not so sure about Backlund. I think he stays too. He’s still here in town, or at least he was about a week ago. I would resign him as well in the $4-4.5 range for three more years.

Why must it be both? Why not sign one and trade the other?

I am hearing more and more from different sources and even Francis has speculated that Rasmus Andersson will be next Flames Captain. I don't think Backlund wants to stay, I think him and Conroy will work together to land him on a roster with a better chance at a SC. I would not be shocked if he ends up in Toronto.

I would imagine Conroy is up to his eyeballs on several scenarios. Trading one or both or niether or extending both are likely being evaluated right now.

The value is fair. But not sure where he’d fit in the Wings depth chart. Walman has broken out and is locked in at LD on the top pair with Seider. Maatta was just signed to an extension. And Edvinsson is their top prospect and will be likely be their #2 LD in a couple years.

This is where I’m at.
Weegar and Kadri signed takes away the extension of Hanifin and Lindholm. Of course we all think Lindholm > Kadri but we already dug our own grave. Huberdeau replaced Gaudreau.
No matter how we slice it I think Lindholm and Hanifin are to be traded. And, if teamS, just just a team, but a few teams are out there for Hanifin you need to get a bidding war and get the best offer for him.

Well, Maata has two years left. Hanifin is a big upgrade on Maata, I’d say. I think he fits well there in their lineup and their trajectory given his age.
My preference would be to resign Hanifin though.
Nm, missed that Edvinsson was LHS D. Could complicate things.

Well, if the guy you're losing is Lindholm then the team will be forced into a teardown no matter what they do, so you might as well ship off Hanifin and get even younger talent.
I suppose you can keep Hanifin. But if you can get a younger Hanifin and other pieces for him then you might as well go that route.
Hanifin is steady but not great, so i dont see him as a rare find or anything, and I think he may be getting overvalued by some outside teams. So why not capitalize.
With Kylington returning to the fold it hurts a little less to potentially deal Hanifin (and at peak value).
