If Muller was responsible for offense, I'm on the don't want Muller back train. His offense was horrible, his PP was horrible and he didn't do anything to fix that.
You can probably add in 2 time goalie of the year and this years AHL MVP into that discussion. Wolf also needs an opportunity.
And judging from what Conroy said today with Jeff Marek he very much wants to give him a chance. But it also sounds like the other young players it won't just be handed to him so they may not make room for him until the end of preseason/start of the regular season.
You said there is no other team playing that way. What a goal post move!
Also, I'd say Bobrovsky had a lot to do with that win.
The Brobrovsky that everyone said was finished that rebounded nicely this playoffs. Kind of like how Markstrom could huh? While the Caneset a lot of point shots go they do not play a Sutter system at all because they have guys screening the net looking for rebounds. They also have guys like Aho and Necas getting into the high danger slot areas for their attempts, something Sutter did not preach at all. So a high volume of shots is really the only similarity there.
Why does Love have to be a NHL head coach? Huska and numerous others don’t get head roles right away.
Blashill was the last AHL coach of the year winner to be in the NHL, and that was 8 years ago. He flamed out as the head coach in Detroit and is now an assistant in Tampa.
Roy Sommer has won 800 games in the AHL and outside of covering an end of season run off after Deboer was fired in SJ, he hasn’t been in the NHL.
As long as we can get a system that is sustainable year in and year out.
No one year 6th in goal and next 20th.
Let's play a brand that gets the best out of our skill players who don't need to have career years every year for us to look good but play to career averages and a bit more or ride high shooting % that comes crashing down in the playoffs.
We also need timely saves and to be quicker in our own zone and not have catastrophic breakdowns on our first few shots.
Dial in the power play.
In theory limits shots and keeping possession is what you want but why Sutter failed is he didn’t allow creative players to be creative offensively and take risks. Holding onto pucks and hunting down matchups and giving star players the ice time they deserve.
I think Tanguay can fit that criteria offensively but we need someone to make sure we are dialled in our end.

For me, it's Love. I kind of surprise myself at the way I'm leaning as I've never been a big fan of promoting coaches unproven in the NHL (I wasn't keen on the Gulutzan and Brent Sutter hirings in the past).
But if building through the draft is the direction of the club, I want someone who understands young players in today's game and can help them transition to the pro game, and Love has demonstrated that.

I am kind of perplexed by the fact that his name is even in the conversation for anything.
Really, it seems like he should be fired, not considered for head coach.

To be fair winning seems to follow Love around whether it be Everett (assistant), or Saskatoon (they were crap for a long time and he turned them around) and the Heat/Wranglers. If there is a coach in the AHL that looks like he could be the next John Cooper it's Mitch Love. He could fail which is the norm for most Flames head coaches but it's getting pretty tiring here seeing fans moan about letting Tkachuk and Bennett go so you can just imagine if another team picks hires him and he becomes a successful NHL head coach how fans would turn on Conroy. At the end of the day you do need to reward people in the organization that have met and surpassed expectations as that's what good organizations do. Love deserves the chance.
A good explanation of Florida's coaching and style under Maurice.
I'm surprised Sutter didn't teach the same forecheck style, it sounded like Sutter was just too oldschool and reliant on vets and handcuffing offensive players. Instead of making smart plays, the strategy was to make dumb plays and shower the net with low chance shots from the perimeter.
I hope the new coach takes up a similar style to the Panthers, but as noted, it's hard to play this for 82 games in the regular season.

Plus he will be cheap. Got to think this is a consideration for the next couple of years. Cheap option on a two year deal. See how it goes. Move on from there.

Agree. And if I'm Mitch Love, i'm not sure i want that HC job right away.

Tanguay won't come here for a lateral move, so if he were to be appointed the next head coach maybe Love could be his assistant tasked with sorting out the defensive system. That might work as a starting point for the coaching staff.
You can 100% interview others, but unless there are some major red flags with Love, he should be coach.
Why? Because he won coach of the year twice with the best goalie prospect in the world and a stifling defensive system? If we are hiring by AHL accomplishments the next coach of the Calgary Flames should be Dallas Eakins by that logic. So why should Love who is known as a defensive coach be handed the reigns to a roster built to play more of an offensive skill game and a new GM who says they want their group to play a more creative offensive system?

Has Tanguay ever been a head coach anywhere? Not to say that it's a dealbreaker if he hasn't. Worked out with Brind'Amour. But should be a consideration.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.
It's not like he's an assistant coach from a highly successful team. He might not like where he is, the Wings might not be high on him. He might be more comfortable with Conroy than Yzerman. His family might prefer Calgary to Detroit.
I don't think Tanguay would be losing face in a lateral move. Sometimes, the situation might just be better. If his name wasn't Alex Tanguay, I don't think he even gets on the radar with his coaching resume.

Nope, but he has been ripened a fair bit in asst coach roles.
I'd like his expertise for the PP and offence. Feels like he could help this team.
But I don't think he would come here to be assistant.
