If there is a window for that type of thing it’s next deadline not this one

The Flames never think they are out though. So if they are in a position like this year (effectively out) they still will think they are in. This team is good enough to be in that position again, more likely they are actually in with middle of the road goaltending next year. But they are not anywhere near a Stanley Cup contender.

The most likely scenario is they are a WC team next year (behind the Oilers, Knights and Kings) and they don’t sell anything, trade a 3rd rounder for a depth dman and lose in the first round. And then lose the assets in the summer of 24 because they do not have the cap space to sign everyone.

Talbot has been the better goalie overall since we signed Markstrom for 6 million a year and let Talbot walk to the Wild for 3.6 million. Maybe BT brings him back to try to fix the goaltending situation.

Bet Brad regrets waiting too long to sign Johnny G. If the guys we brrought in can't take that extra step now then what of next season? If the Flames miss the playoffs they may have to bring guys up and see if there is enough there to improve on.

Flames clearly need a defined plan because this middle of the road finishes just prolongs the inevitable.

Goalies are so finicky. To throw a 21 year old in the thick of the playoff race, where the team in from of him sucks, is not a good idea.
