Not to mention needing validation on social media for it.

Add Bryan Adams to that list. Both vegans by the way. Coincidence? You be the judge.

Certainly it’s part of his story but what’s with the overly aggressive statements? Meh. Just a funny thing I’ve noticed in many forums when it comes to controversial figures and how posters react to them.

Welcome to the internet. People love to pile on because no one knows about the skeletons in their closet. If you assume I am defending Bobby Hull you're a dumb ass.

I think that's a gross misreading of pointing out that someone who died was a garbage person in life. We've all not the best things we've done in life, or the worst thing. However, when you're repeatedly accused of beating your spouse and don't ever express remorse, you're a bad person. People can change and are given those chances countless times. Many choose not to take them
And yeah, as for me, I know the worst things I've done and they still haunt me. I've changed, am changing, it's a process. So I think I'm entitled to say defending hitler and beating your wife is bad.

Yeah reading everything written about this is a bit of a revalation however I agree with the "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" sect. Lots of morally and ethically superior posters here. However I have as much a bone to pick with "Cancel culturalists" as I do with someones who's background is less than pristine.

It’s actually ok to recognize that someone with a long history of beating women and being racist is not someone to celebrate or admire. The “he who is without sin” and “cancel culturalists” complaining rings a bit hollow considering your history. Maybe it’s just birds of a feather flocking together, but I’m sure you could be at least as critical of Bobby Hull for being a racist woman beater as you were of Kadri for… being Lebanese? or Muslim? or whatever this was?

We have colored and first nations players throughout the league thrilled to play without bringing that baggage.

I've never beat my wife (or any woman) and I have very negative views on Hitler. I've never abused anyone, including my kids.
Do I get to say Bobby Hull was a piece of #### now?

If someone was helped, or decided to seek help.
If someone was brought to justice.
If someone was moved to donate, or volunteer with a DV charity.
Then the public discussion of Hull's DV past served a purpose.

I will add "It lets people know this behaviour is not tolerated, and behaving in that way will absolutely damage your legacy."
That is a lot of the benefit of this. When bad people behave in bad ways, and good people turn a blind eye to it, they are supporting bad behaviour. Silence is telling the attacker that their behaviour is ok. Silence is telling the victims that they do not matter.
Terrible people will whine about cancel culture, political correctness, freedom, woke or whatever else they can come up with. They do not do this honestly, they do it to try and get regular people to support them, because if they can get silence they are getting support.
They do not actually care about the principals, look at how hypocritical their arguments actual are (eg other people should not have the freedom speech because if they choose to say bad things about my words/actions it is cancel culture attacking free speech). The goal is to bully good people into support their bad behaviour (silence = support).
