Burke was on the Eric Francis show and said he lost 6 lbs coming into camp this year to get quicker. Works hard and skates well. Thinks it's a good pickup for the Flames and they would have preferred that the Pens kept him.

It would be pretty funny to see a line of Lucic-Ruzicka-Zohorna. Doubt there’s been many NHL lines that big before.

Did I say it was a bad move? No. So piss off. But put in context of not moving Lucic, signing Rooney, Lewis, and Ritchie, Having Ruzicka in a waivers situation and probably having to keep him, and having Eakins in camp and performing the best of the 4th liners, this seems like a redundant move. It is a strange move considering the obvious shortcomings.

I have the Flames sitting at $1,161,667 in space, counting Ritchie/Kylington out and Zary/Mackey in.
Those two are the most expensive existing contracts in the mix for a roster spot opening day, I think if they sign anyone else (Stone or Eakin...) they will come in cheaper than Zary/Mackey so the opening day cap space could be a little higher.

Intriguing pickup. Has decent production in limited minutes.
I predict a portion of the fan base is going to be riding him hard because he's 6'6" and doesn't put someone through the boards on every shift.

Throw in Zadorov and Hanifin or Meloche or Stone on D.

I don't see any shortcomings because you can still waive Zohorna if he doesn't outperform any of the 4th liners. In the worst case scenario you get an extra body for a week of camp, then PIT claims him back and assigns him to the minors.

He'd still have to clear waivers to go to Wilkes-Barre

I see the pair thing sort of working, but the third player on each of the lines is so uncomplimentary I don't see how they're going to benefit the main pair? This keeps getting weirder and weirder.

Because players at the top grow on trees?
You can ONLY add from the bottom at the beginning of the year unless you're willing to make (yet) another trade. I have no problem with that. The skill at the top end is *supposed* to be high enough that they can figure out how to play together.
Do give them a while to do that.

I think waivers is determined by standing from the previous season, so I think we would be at the bottom.
This pick up is strange, it seems like they are stockpiling on bottom line players. As long as this boots Eakin out of the lineup.
Making the claim makes no sense otherwise.

I believe he will be going to Wilkes-Barre unless multiple teams submitted waiver claims on this go around. Since there were only 5 teams with lower waiver priority than the Flames I don't think it's likely there were multiple claims submitted. I could be wrong on that one though.

Wouldn’t Kylington still count against the cap though?

6th last, so 20 teams chose to not make a claim before the Flames did

We'll see what happens when the season opens. If he is taking an extended leave of absence, the team might suspend him.

He is in the final year of a two-year contract that pays league-minimum and will be a UFA next summer.
