I think this team is still a top six forward away from where they want to be heading into the season and I believe Brad knows this as well and will do something.

Lucic or Monahan need to be off the books and another $5-$7mil guy brought in, and when the season starts this will have happened, imo. This is a good line-up, but we are not going for good, our GM will do everything in his power to have a top 5-8 line up in the league heading into the season. I'm excited.

One of the guys from the AHL, Ruzicka, Pelletier, Phillips really need to come into camp and just blow the doors off and take a spot.

Ruzicka has the talent to fill a top 9 center role and could play on the 2nd line.

Phillips has been the offensive catalyst in Stockton for a couple of seasons, and there is a clear need for a top 9 RW. His size is working against him, but is this the year that he finally gets a look.

Pelletier seems to be penciled into everyone’s line up already, and he had a great rookie year in the AHL, he definitely looks like he is ready to make the jump.

Having one or more of these guys on cheap deals come up and make an impact will be huge for this team. Quite honestly it will be huge for their development system.

This being said, I think we should trade Hanifin & Valimaki for prospects and picks
Why on Earth would you trade one of our core D men for prospects/picks when we are clearly trying to win now? That is just dumb.

Our first line looks like another team’s second line. Our second line looks like a third line, and our third line looks like a 4th line.

This just isn’t true for our first and second lines.

Huberdeau was 3rd in scoring, Lindholm was 29th. How does that constitute a second line?

Toffoli, Mangiapane, And Backlund both easily have second line production, well within the top 180 of forwards that would be a “second line production”.

And if you look at 5v5 production Coleman is easily in that range too, he just doesn’t play PP so his total counting numbers are lower. He was a top 6 forward on a team that won back to back cups.

The bottom 6 could use a bit more depth though for sure…some pieces are there though if Monahan and Dube can find some finishing skills, and Pelletier and Ruzicka continue to grow.

I think either Kadri or Hall are targets.

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Hall
Mangiapange - Backlund - Tofolli

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Tofolli
Mangiapane - Kadri - Coleman

In either scenario it still feels like a weak top 6.

It’s better than toffoli. I don’t think mang is gonna score 30 and I don’t think Coleman is gonna score more than 15

lol this guy

115 point scorer and 40 goal 2nd in Selke voting on the first line

what other team has those on their 2nd line? none

there is ONE player in the NHL that scored more points than Huberdeau last season

I’m beginning to wonder if we aren’t giving enough credit to Meloche.

Everything I’ve read indicates he established himself as a big, physical bottom pairing Dman last season and it makes me wonder if he is the heir replacement for Gudbranson and he plays on the bottom pairing with Zadorov.

With all the rumours flying around about Tre not being done, one has to think he may trade excess D for a much needed F.

I think the Meloche signing was writing on the wall for Valimaki. We have Mackey and Meloche as #7D options right now. The Kylington extension and Weegar acquisition means Valimaki has to either impress the **** out of management in preseason or get traded if he ever wants to be paid more than 1.5m later on. I think packaging him and Monahan for a forward ideally with 1-2 years left on a deal and can play in the top 6 at ease would be ideal. The quality of forward we acquire depends on if we add more to that or not. I think Valimaki is still an NHLer. Just don’t think it’ll ever be with us.

Mangiapane had 35 last year. The year before he was on a 26 goal pace over 82 games, the year before that he was on a 21 goal pace over 82 games. I would say it is more likely that Mangiapane scores 40 than it is that he is below 30.

Some are understandably down on Toffoli given he didn't score at the rate he historically has but I see it much more likely he bounces back this season in that metric than Pelletier or Phillips making an impact.

I don’t hate the Flames lineup, think they are just a top 6 forward away from being solid. I have stated before that it would be amazing to be able to obtain a young cost controlled budding talent to help now and in the future (yes I know these are Unicorns without mortgaging the farm)

Actually...he scored at exactly his career rate in the regular season, but he and others simply were not the same in the playoffs.

I think he will be fine moving forward and Darryl loves the guy.

I think coming from a completely awful Montreal team to stepping into the high pace Sutter coached team was tough for Tofolli. I’m not worried about him this year.

Tofolli and Coleman were also coming off a Stanley Cup final in July...neither had a proper summer of training

I was wondering who the hell he was and I saw some highlights of one of our games against the Sharks and I remember I noticeably hated him because he was doing an excellent job of fitting under the skin of our team. Very effective in that game. I believe Markstrom even tried to spear him

Toffoli has zero chemistry with Backlund. Those two need to be kept apart.
