(at OP) Yeah, while I still don't like the fact he wanted out at only 24, I don't have near the same hard feelings about him leaving as I did Gaudreau. Unlike Johnny who (inadvertently, but still) left CGY scrambling and made them the joke of the hockey world for a week, Chucky let them know well in advance and Tre was able to make a proper trade.
I still like Chucky, especially with how much he got under the skin of the Oilers and their obnoxious fans. No way would I boo him at the Dome. Johnny, on the other hand..

Whether you want to admit it or not, Tkachuk's honesty and frankness allowed the Flames to maneuver accordingly and get a nice return in a trade.
Litigate fan reactions all you want, I'm just happy with the way everything shook out. Thank you Matthew and Johnny for all those great years as Flames, it was a joy to watch both of you, and all the best to you and your families!

I have no ill will towards either player. I still like both.
The strong hate towards Johnny isn't just because we missed out on assets. The return we could have gotten for him compared to Chucky would be minimal. Angry fans are hating on him because they think he secretly hated Calgary all along. They feel like they were toyed with emotionally.

#### him. Arrogant pos. Acted like a spoiled rich boy the whole time. I didn’t fall for his “I care about winning” bs either. He was obviously lying.

Well from the presser it sounded like even if Goodrow did re-sign, Chucky was not going to re-sign here. Later loser!

Tkachuk knows how to not sewer his legacy. He should have taught Johnny a thing or two about that

I agree with the feeling that him wanting out is not a reason to celebrate and only is because people are sad/angry over Gaudreau leaving and because Treliving made a miracle trade/Florida lost their mind.

I just don't understand how people can be that bitter about this. Those guys really gave Calgary something to be proud of. Its a job. They made a decision to change it up. I would hope that all you bitter guys aren't stuck in jobs because you feel you should be loyal. Opportunity is where everyone loyalties should stand.

Loved Chucky the player, and thought he was pretty funny as a person too. Will miss him, thought for sure he was our next Captain.
I'm looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about, once we actually play against him. Is really as unlikable to play against as other fans say? His antics never really seemed that bad to me, especially compared to schlong mufflers like Kassian and Kessler.

Thanks for everything Matthew, heck of a player and a heck of a Flame. His antics and between the legs goals will be missed. Eternal thanks for allowing the team to trade you with an extension attached, that added considerable value which he did not need to do.
In the end, Brad got absolutely everything he could out of this 6th round selection. 6 years of service + the pieces from the trade. Good luck in Florida.

I believe by this point Gaudreau’s critics were already asking where his thank you Calgary message was.

First sign and trade in NHL history. Literally no NHL player ever has given the team they were leaving a better parting gift. That's not "handling things like a professional" - that's going above and beyond. Thanks, indeed!

Thanks for giving the Oilers reason to sign Kassian to that ridiculous contract. And for annoying all of our division rivals. And thanks for parting ways in the most professional manner possible.

You are looking at their history with the flames, their signings, their media quips, and honestly none of that junk matters anymore. They're gone, and complaining about what they said in media is bordering on angsty 12 year old "bUt He SaId!!!" fluff. What matters to me is that, with both of them leaving, Tkachuk gave the flames the chance to make the team better, Gaudreau didn't.
You can continue looking back at the fluff pieces they said to the media, ill be looking forward to the return for Tkachuk.
|
Watching you try to be clever is cringey.
But the bold is just funny considering your dramatic meltdown over Gaudreau the “snake” because he wasn’t “honest” (definitely not based on what you learned from the media… you’re definitely an insiderrr). Still buying tickets just to throw a toy snake on the ice? Sounds a little angsty to me
You don’t have to look forward to the return for Tkachuk. It’s already here. Hopefully it’s two guys who actually want to be here instead of two heroes who don’t.

But yeah, screw him.
The only thing I'm mad at Gaudreau about now is for being such an indecisive weenie.

Gaudreau's circumstances are quite different. He is married, has a baby on the way, and has a father who almost died a few years ago from a heart attack.
Gaudreau looked out for his family. Tkachuk looked out for himself.

See! this is the way you do it and not that super cringe press conference in Columbus where you didn't want to mention a single thing about Calgary.
