All the more reason for the Flames to finish Edmonton quickly - this other series is going 7, and it’s going to be a hard 7. If the Flames can end this in 4 or 5, those extra few days off could be all the difference against whichever team emerges tenderized out of that series.

Oh, it'll stop all right. It's a classic bubble. All these gambling operations are advertising heavily to buy a customer base, but there won't be anything like enough customers to go round.
In this respect, it reminds me of the dot-com bubble. Google and Amazon were worth the price of their stock, but scores of would-be competitors disappeared without a trace. The market for their products would have had to be ten times as big for all of them to succeed.
I expect that a few large operations will collar most of the business, and the rest will burn through their capital and fail. In the meantime, we have to watch them slug it out with saturation advertising. Once the market matures, the survivors won't need to advertise as heavily, and we'll be stuck watching commercials for some other fool thing.

Good bounce back for St.Louis. They need to make this s long series with more grind it out on the cycle type of play. Colorado has an Edmonton like tendency to use its top 8-9 players and run out of steam 4 games into round 2. If Binnington plays like this, Avalanche won't be waltzing thru this in 5 games.

I guess I should have clarified, I never meant it would go on for eternity. Just the near future, at least. It's not going to stop during these playoffs. Unfortunately.

Maybe, but most of these companies have been around for a while in the online offshore space (ok, not Bet Rivers - they’ll look to build a base then sell out), and the sponsorship on English and European soccer kits is all over the place. And places like Pokerstars are still around.
In 2-3 years when gambling like this is legal in all 50 states and all provinces and territories, there is still going to be enough companies in the game to want to advertise during sporting events and clog up each commerical break by paying top dollar.

There will be consolidation, but suspect they'll always be sports gambling commercials on during sports now. Just a new normal unless the government regulates the advertising away.

Unlikely to be the same result...but the Avs swept round 1 last year, smoked Vegas in game 1 in round 2 and then started tumbling right out of the playoffs

Is it just me or have the 2nd round games been a little slower/sleepier than the first round? Or was the first round just that good? It felt like the FLA crowd was completely asleep last night.

Of course. I was reacting to a poster saying that Colorado and St Louis would be the Flames. They are both good teams and would be a challenge, but I don't think that it would be impossible for Calgary.

The first few nights of Round 1 had quite a few blowouts and didn't feel super exciting. Give it some time.
