What was Monahan's faceoff percentage tonight? I was at the game and it seemed like he won most of his face offs.
Game seemed to be played in the center of the ice, very chippy. Passing was off, Chucky seemed to struggle with that.

Another showing that proves the Flames still have some steps to take if they want to compete with the Avs in the playoffs.
Special teams and sandpaper in front of the net when the defence is tough on the top line.

Monahan was 9 for 12
The Flames had a lot of offsides, along with the passing issues
I know Sutter wants to send a message to Monahan, and maybe wants to use PP2 as a reward of some sort, but don’t think that using Jarnkrok is a better idea on PP

I know the Flames, especially the top line, plays a very crisp game in the offensive zone and for breakout from the D, and thus the movement of the puck around the ice rely on hard and precise tape to tape passes and being able to give and of course recieve those hard passes.
The last handful of games (I'd say the last 4 or 5, and again tonight) there's been a fair share of bouncing and skipping on edge pucks which basically negate that type of possession and puck movement and the chances go for not because of some deteriorated crappy ice.
And, that seems to be coinciding with the weather and full capacity at the Dome.
With the failing ice plant at the Dome basically a main hockey operational reason for a new rink, that issue isn't likely to go away as we get further into spring.

Let’s win 4 against the top wildcard first before we go worrying about Colorado. Let’s not be Edmonton and always be ahead of ourselves.

Trust me, after 2019 I learned to not look ahead to the next series. I don't consider the win against the Jets a playoff series win. That was them qualifying for the playoffs.

If the Flames meet the Avs in the playoffs that would be the 3rd round, so a fantastic thing.
Right now I'm more worried about round 1, as it looks like the Flames will most likely face either Dallas, Nashville or $90+ million payroll Vegas. No easy match ups there.

Avs had to play basically perfect to win.
They did a great job of keeping out Flames players in front of Keumper. Unfortunately they had to double team to do it. That won't be a great strategy in the playoffs.

Felt like they had a hard time playing their game last night. Passing was off, gaining the zone was harder - so many offsides and icing. Usually I look at the scoreboard and think "ya wow it does feel like we've had 40 shots" but last night didn't feel that way for some reason. Props to the Avs, they did a great job of suffocating whoever had the puck.
Not worried about the Avs overall - if we're lucky enough to play them in the post season we'll be rolling by then.

This was a one goal game between two top teams, where a few bounces the other way and the result is reversed. No need for hair pulling.

Yeah he was a beast in the dot. Sarich highlighted it at intermission.

I still think the lines need some jigging. First line is dynamite but the others are just not quite clicking yet imo. But, the pieces are all there and they do play just fine as is.
I would like to see Mangi-Monahan-Toffoli given a longer stretch. If that one catches fire then we have real solid depth.

Colorado's D core is extremely underrated. Adding Manson was a great call IMO. They have lots of skill and good size. But they're all highly engaged and play well as a unit.

They talked on 960 this morning (and played Huska's comments) about not getting enough traffic in front, screens etc. Thats accurate. They also didn't make Kuemper move alot side to side. Nichushkin's 2nd goal was a good example of what the Flames should have been doing. Not just traffic but parking someone at the side of the net or passes cross crease.

Damn, I went to bed before the 3rd started so was hoping for a different score to wake up too.
Oh well, was a close game against a good team
