I've actually learned recently that if a player is traded after the deadline he is ineligible for both the playoffs and remaining regular season games. It's only UFA's signed after the deadline that are able to play in the regular season while being barred from playoffs.

This smells to me like Vegas didn't read Dadonov's contract.
I assume they received a copy of it......

So basically no one will be willing to trade for Dadonov now. No one wants to pay for a guy who isn't allowed to play.

Could Dadonov sue for Breach of Contract?

They's have to sweeten the pot considerably. A top prospect or a high pick might convince a team to take him, even if he can't play this year.

Well I guess at the moment the trade hasn't gone through, so no, probably not. And now that the NHLPA is involved whatever the outcome is it will probably have Dadonov's buy-in.

Where did you learn that players would also be ineligible for remaining regular season games?

I think PensionPlanPuppets, is rather reputable...
https://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/2...rules-playoffs
In this article, only a year old, they state
Quote:
Any player traded after the deadline is not eligible to play on a team’s playoff roster. It happens very rarely, usually after a team is out of action, and they get someone with term. This might happen as teams look to get players for expansion draft reasons.
|
Can you cite where you learned that they ineligible for regular season?

It was posted on a different site by someone who has access to the NHL bylaws (not a public document to my knowledge). Their post is as follows:
Quote:
The rule is not in the CBA itself, it's in a old NHL By-Laws section 12.4 on Eligibility of Players. All NHL By-Laws remain in effect unless they're replaced by new rules in the CBA. The CBA explicitly includes all NHL By-Laws in its rules.
"12.4 A player transferred from the Reserve List to the equivalent list of another Member [Team] following the [Trade Deadline] shall not be eligible to play for the transferee club during the remainder of the playing season".

I can't believe some rube posters still defend this LTIR crap they are pulling
second this is all squared away a player will miraculously recover
I wonder if its Stone's "7th doctor" that fixes him up or if Martinez recovers from the skate cut to the face he got in November. He should be ready to go since he has been in full practice for 3 months

Man, if I were an NHL player, I would not want to be in that Vegas organization.

how is this even possible in a time where even casual fans can find out about players having NMC/NTCs by simply going to CapFriendly? Pretty crazy that an NHL franchise apparently doesn't know that one of their players has one.

So does Dadonov not want to go to Anaheim? Or is he willing but because of paper work not being filed correctly he can’t go to Anaheim?

Anaheim is on his NT list so its safe to assume he doesnt want to go or he would have just waived to do so.

It’s pretty obvious the deal shouldn’t go through. If teams can just say ‘oh nobody told us about that part of the contract’ for a contract they have and traded for then it will be a free for all from now on.

Yeah, a normal part of a business acquisition is to go over every important contract to make sure it’s all up to date, there are no hidden surprises etc. In a player acquisition there is one contract and, in this case, a list of NTC teams. I mean, I’ve heard of offseason trades are subject to a physical. That’s due diligence. It would have taken 5 minutes to check this when Vegas traded for him.
And who’s to say they wouldn’t have taken him anyway, it’s not like they knew at the time he’d be a TDL trade, let alone to Anaheim in particular.

This needs to be pinned.
Its unreal how bull#### this crap is, and yet Vegas continues to abuse it with no repercussions as if its not obvious. But it begs the question... why don't more teams do this then? You can seemingly force any player to "sit out" until playoffs and then activate and abuse it.
Vegas is slowly becoming a despicable franchise.

Even if he waived now, wouldn’t it be after the TDL? Maybe that wouldn’t make a difference to Anaheim.
