No kidding. What a bunch of clowns. Guy had a chance to finish the season with a contender and maybe a long playoff run, now he's stuck playing out the string with those losers.

Definitely feels like a petty revenge move from an organization that doesn't have any plans for Richardson but to waste his time and season.

I can’t imagine that Richardson is happy with the canucks.
Put on waivers so that the flames have flexibility to add more players for the playoffs. Richardson would have a better chance of playing in the playoffs with the additional player(s). I’m assuming that Richardson was going to be recalled immediately after he was able to come back up. Now? Likely no playoffs and on a team that was a seller at the deadline.

Maybe afraid that a team in the running for Motte would just grab Richardson for free instead? Obviously the return for Motte was already not where the pundits and Canucks fans were thinking.
Had to protect their big trade asset by claiming a waived player by the Flames. ;p

if the Canucks put him back on waivers at some point, do the Flames get the first shot?

No. It would go through regular waiver priority.
I don't know how post-deadline waivers even works. He can't be sent to the AHL, so I'm not even sure if they could put him on waivers.

The thing is, Canucks thinks they are screwing the Flames, but in actuality, they are screwing the player.

Yeah, losing our 15th forward (16th if you include Ruzicka) is really putting the screws to us.
