Yeah...thats not likely going to be a problem. The Aquilinis hired the new coach and the new GM is probably going to just be either the Aquilinis themselves or a puppet thereof.

Now the next GM is stuck with Gabby regardless? So dumb.
Bruce is only on the line for the rest of this season and next season. A next GM will be able to make his own choice pretty quickly or keep the same guy. The expectation is that a new GM won't be hired until the summer.
Edit - But also, what Locke has said is also accurate. People keep demanding a POHO, not realizing we have one. He just sucks and is also one of the owners so won't go anywhere.
I think they are trying to turn around the product on the ice and maybe salvage the season. That was only going to happen with a different coach. I have no issue with this as they have plenty of time to find the right GM and BB will likely have the team playing a lot better which will make is easier for the incoming GM to assess the roster.
The team had that 'we're just waiting for the pogrom to start' look about them for the last few weeks, they had to dump Green, in the end I dont think it matters that much, if Bruce turns things around somewhat the new GM will likely want to keep him anyway, if he doesnt the team will need to be dismantled anyway and it doesnt matter who's in charge for 3 or 4 years

By the time the Habs denied they were making a change at coach, they were far enough along with BB not to hire him. That’s why he got hired first, and or maybe Benning was going to stay.
