The team is playing great but not because Gio left, moreso because Sutter has had more time to fully implement his vision and get some players in that compliment it. But having Giordano back would be nothing but a massive addition for a playoff run, if it were to happen. He's not the type of guy to demand the C back and he's still a very good defenseman. Any talk of disruption is pure nonsense. As good as the Flames are now, they'd be even better.

I mean there is no more point in beating this dead horse. You and many other posters on here have been clamoring for a new core the past 5 years.
Well now with Brodie gone, Monahan regulated to 3rd line status and the biggest core piece gone to the Kraken, why the hell would you want to bring Gio back?
Especially after watching the first 21 games this season. Unless you think this start is a mirage and they are going to go cliff diving, this team is a not Gio core.
|
I haven't said I want Giordano back.
But no Giordano struggled with Andersson to start last season, was excellent with Tanev and has been great with Oleksiak to start this season.
He has comparable numbers to the Flames top four this year without Sutter and playing on an expansion team that has scored 19 less goals than they've given up five on five.
I wouldn't trade big assets for him, but the player is still solid.

They don't necessarily slow down, but they're played closer to the vest.
A lot like the Pen-Flames game on Monday.
Oilers still attempt to play wide open transitional hockey, which is why physical, structured, played seasoned teams like Winnipeg curb stomp them.

They're played tighter, but they are anything but slower. Forechecking pressure from forwards onto defensemen is ramped up significantly. As is physicality.
For defensemen in their own zone, it is the exact opposite of 'the games actually slow down'.

I could see Giordano as a depth guy for a team looking to take on a long Stanley Cup run.
I think the Oilers could take him on Trade Deadline.

The game is slowed down not because of effort or desire, the game slows down because transition/rush opportunities are taken away. Unless your name is Bill Peters and you are ok giving Mackinnon and the Avalanche all the rush chances they want.
But no, defensemen like Gio who struggles to pivot and turn would have an easier time defending because of the tighter checking and clogged neutral zone. Gio is very susceptible to being beaten wide, but if rush chances are taken away, then he'll have less opportunities to be exposed to those situations.
If you think the speed of the game increases, then I guess McDavid must be absolutely crushing it in the playoffs with his 1-7 record over the last couple playoff seasons. I don't know if you're confusing intensity for speed, but most playoff games that I've seen, there isn't a lot of run & gun, trading chances, rope a dope kind of stuff. It's more like navigating through a mine field while you dump and chase 90% of the game.

Do I hear the Panthers calling? It could be...
He could reunite with Bennett. Then you'd ALL be on the bandwagon. Muahahahahahah!

The game doesn't slow down. Everyone goes 100% every shift.
It gets tighter, because everyone is checking fiercely. That doesn't make it slower, it makes it faster, because everyone has less time.
Yes, transition is harder. But that doesn't mean slower. It's harder because everything is faster.
Describing the playoffs as slowing the game down, is the most bizarre take I have seen in a while.

McBennett will do a full derp like last year costing the Panthers a series.

Adding Gio to that backend would be downright scary and I think he’d be a great fit with Montour.

Again, you’re arguing about intensity. Yes, the intensity of games pick up, players certainly up their battle levels and are harder on pucks and etc. But the pace of play slows down, speed becomes less of a factor because the middle of the ice is taken away, there’s less room to navigate and the McDavids of the world become more neutralized. Conversely, bigger, slower, heavier players like a Milan Lucic can thrive because the speed of the game now being played at his level.

Actually, my first thought was that he'd bump Montour out of the lineup, but then I realized that Connauton is getting regular game time right now. The only issue is that the left side is well staffed with great 2-way guys in Weegar and Forsling. Gio would likely be 3rd pair and PK specialist
Weegar-Ekblad
Forsling-Gudas
Giordano-Montour
Sure, I'll take that any day.

Hottest hot take ever?
Gio has a NMC. No way he does it.
Does he?

I could see him going to Toronto at the TDL or else next season on a cheap deal. Hometown, loves playing there, could even reunite with Brodie.

Kids grew up in Calgary, he's a huge part of the community, etc etc. I'd bet if he had an offer he'd take it.

They did but he’s a Toronto boy thru and thru. I imagine the grandparents are there too. It’s a tossup IMO. And which team will offer him more in terms of money and ice time?

Maybe Giordano ends up liking Seattle? Maybe he's into the Alt Music scene.
