Larsson had a great year last year and was far better than Andersson.
Look up the Jfresh cards if you want one comparison. Larsson and Oleksiak were much better than Andersson and Zadorov.

Fine, you can call Zadorov almost = Oleksiak. They’re similar enough that I can’t be bothered to die on that hill. I thought Oleksiak has been noticeable and effective in the playoffs. Analytics support the view. Zadorov’s are good, Oleksiak’s a bit better
Larsson vs Andersson. Eye test and the analytics support for me

Gio with a partner like Tanev or Brodie that he can trust is a beast
Tanev is rock solid and makes his partner better
They kind of play different roles, but slotted optimally, Gio can get to a level Tanev can’t. That’s my view

I'm a Gio fan ... so don't have a problem with that view at all.
But Gio had a rough season with anyone but Tanev.

Rasmus for whatever reason, tanked every pairing he touched last year after being good for his entire career
By that logic Hanifin also had rough season with anyone but Tanev if that’s how you want to frame it. But really he had a very good season unless paired with Rasmus, as did Gio
Gio with Larsson could be very, very good this year

I disagree, they won't be anywhere near a playoff spot

Yeah that's a good point ... Hanifin had better numbers with Andersson than Giordano did, but certainly was pulled down.
Giordano was good with Valimaki in very limited time too.

Tanev was better than Gio last year imo by a fair margin and Gio is another year older. If his foot speed declines anymore could get ugly.
Would like them both but saying Tanev will be better this year doesn't seem like a stretch.

Well yeah, as they did with my assessment
No one is suggesting Giordano hasn't been a much better player than Tnev. But who would you pick going forward?

Larsson had an extremely good season last year, was one of the top defensive D in the league by most possession metrics. Huge loss for the Oilers IMO.

Too bad the Krakens really want Gio
I would have given them the 3rd to keep Gio knowing the money was spent on one year of Zadorov and Grud
Yeah Gio old and lost a step but he is not worse than those 2 and his offense has not been replaced

Larsson had a better season than Andersson, no question.
However, I expect him to rebound. I would not trade Andersson for Larsson straight-up. No chance.

I think we all forget just how much we bitched about Gio before he was put with Tanev. Even back to last year.

Lifetime Suspension
|
In a vacuum, Zadorov + Gudbranson << Giordano
However, a seismic shift in the team and locker room was needed because we need other guys to step up and to have the opportunity to see who would if a guy like Gio left.
So while the replacement is underwhelming and will largely be by committee, this is also something that was due and was coming, whether it was last year or this year.

The Oilers are going to miss him a lot. Would you trade Andersson for him?
