Outside of the signing bonuses, the Habs actually negotiated a pretty good contract for Aho.

I doubt JK will ever be a $6 million player, but I guess it the Canes weren't going to use this cap space, may as well.

Not sure I'd give up a 1st in a very good draft though.

They would now have an extra draft pick to acquire Eichel. Which would be hilarious if Carolina actually helped montreal acquire Eichel by trying to screw them. Another thing to consider. Canes only have 4.5 available and will have to lose cap if Montreal declines to match the offer

Man this is just a stupid offer by the Canes.

I get the revenge angle and think its hilarious.....but only to a point.

Now you are going to be paying WAY too much for a very average player no where near the dollars you are giving...for at least one year. Multiple years if you want to retain him.

He really doesnt address a weakness on your team per se.

You lose 2 draft picks including a 1st rounder, for the priviledge of over paying him on top of that.

And you do it to a team that isnt even in your division, so the chances it helps your own team accomplish anything are pretty small.

If the goal of a GM is to make his own team better, this seems like a complete fail by Waddell/Dundon.

This is funny but if I'm Bergevin I thank them for the 1st and 3rd round picks. I don't think the Habs are going to make the playoffs anyway so this would be a good opportunity to retool.

Still don't see the Canadiens giving up Caufield or Romanov.

I can see them being interested in Monahan.

Yikes, that's like throwing egg on the face of his current team.
Maybe he hates the Habs?

100% agree, take the 1st and 3rd and sign Tyler Bozak to fill the void for a year. As you say, I also don’t believe they are going to make the playoffs.

Hard to sell a retool to the fans a year after you made the SCF.

Although I hear MTL fans are a measured, rational and collected group, so maybe it would be fine.

The reality is that he and his family were probably doing cartwheels at $6.1 million and probably spent milliseconds thinking about the $20 bonus and what it meant.

Not sure what we could get back from them that would make sense.

I don't think it is. Most Habs fans should be educated enough to know that was a Cinderella run that will not be repeatable. The salary cap gymnastics required to keep the player far outweigh what the player brings them on the ice. I'm kind of surprised the Canes were willing to let go of a 1st and 3rd really.

If I'm Bergevin I take the picks.

They seem uncertain what to do with KK during the regular season, hesitant to play him in the post season and he'd be looking at $5M there anyway.

Take the picks and use that space to do what Bergevin does best. Trade & spend.

This is funny but also very strange. If Montreal matches how awkward for him going back into that locker room. In that scenario, it seems like a win for the Canes. If they don't match, the Canes lose picks to overpay for a player for 1 year. That money could be spent a lot better for a team who is a legit contender.

Carolina is such a gong show. Could have kept Hamilton, not had to trade for Bear, and not signed Stepan, and they would be ahead of where they are now, throwing 6.1 million at a guy who is a middle-six guy at this point.

PPG Aho is on a better deal than this, so what exactly are they getting revenge for?
