Please leave it vacant for a while until someone can earn it like Gio did.

They can pick 13 D. 9 is the minimum.

A year ago I would have said Tkachuk for sure. Now? I think it might be Backlund.

good luck to Gio...I think this was the only sane move...
there was a opportunity to trade Gio at the TDL, knowing how well Tanev had been playing up to that point, but they elected to try chasing the last playoff spot that they were not in...
I am good with the list and the potential outcome

I like all the chatter about deadline...they are a playoff team if they want to chose their roster accordingly...

If Gio is gone this year Tkachuk is going to have a career year and the Flames will win a playoff series.

If this rumour had any truth to it at all I would absolutely be happy as a fan. And I’d be happily eating crow on Tkachuk.

I know its not the popular opinion but some of Chucky's attitude is really what this team needs.
Without him this team has all the edginess and attitude of Wonder Bread.

Is that really unpopular? I thought I was in the majority by agreeing with you there. It’s the disappearing acts that have people angry.

Ive always believed Monahan was the chosen one for the next Captaincy. He's been being groomed for it since day 1 IMO.

I think its unpopular because a lot of people dont want the Rat King wearing the C, and frankly, he probably shouldnt, but he's one of the only players on this team that plays with heart and grit.
Monahan seems like the anointed one for Captaincy, but I dont think that really addresses the attitude issue.
The disappearing acts...maybe the position would help stave some of that off?

All I know is that whoever told Tkachuk to "tone things down" should not get the captaincy and should be traded.
In terms of leadership and the captaincy, no player comes to the defense of his teammates more than Tkachuk and no player has as little support from his teammates as Tkachuk. Take that for what you will.
As for Tkachuk in the playoffs, his first taste was against a big tough Ducks team. Rookie season, I'll give him a pass.
3 points in 5 games against Colorado is not bad. He was also very physical in that series and involved.
2 points in 6 games last playoffs but hard to say he wasn't impactful before his injury. His physical play led to Schiefle's injury and as we've seen, that Jets team can't win in the playoffs without Schiefle. Flames maybe don't beat the Jets without that series of events.
He might not have put up points, but Tkachuk is very impactful and engaged in the playoffs. It's still a very small sample size for him.

I do kind of think that a ‘C’ would hold Tkachuk back a bit from being ‘Full Tkachuk’. But maybe it wouldn’t.

A player that’s not respected by officials and maybe some of the team is not a good choice. But on the other hand, Monahan may have been a good choice, but not if his play continues to sag.
Just based on play and demeanour that I can see, maybe Tanev is the interim choice. Backlund maybe, but he only just became an A and maybe he doesn’t want it.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Mangiapane with a letter, maybe Lucic.

Thats really the gamble.
Does the 'C' tone Chucky down? Or does it drag his teammates into the trenches with him?
If its the former then our issues deepen. If its the latter though then this becomes a much grittier and tougher team to play against.
