Is it? 960 has had 2 ex nhl players on now and both didn’t think much of it. Some Players on Twitter have said its not much. Will there really be retribution?

Of course Jiri, lose your sight, teeth, get stitches, whatever. Whatever it takes not to put a cage on and look like a wuss to your buddies, that’s the most important thing.

I took stitches to around my eyebrow back in the days when hardly anyone wore visors or cages. Stupid to think how close that stick came to my eye. And it was a nothing play. The guy’s stick rebounded on mine fighting for the puck.

Football linemen wear cages. I wonder if people think they are wimpy.

Correct. As usual, Gus is tapped into the truth

If there was any time I wanted to be wrong. At this point I'm 100% on board with someone gooning Wilson out of the league. Career ending injury, better Wilson than an unsuspecting defenceless player.

I can't imagine just being some regular working guy and thinking it's just cool to lose some teeth in a rec league because you care that much about people thinking you look dumb with a cage on.

A guy on my team, who at the time was wearing a visor, was told by the doctor he was centimeters away from losing his eye due to a high stick. It took a couple close calls with sticks and pucks for me to smarten up too. There is literally nothing to be gained from not protecting your face and it baffles me that there's some sort stigma around people wearing a cage in beer league (unless you're running around trying to hurt or fight people while wearing one in which case you're an idiot for a different reason).

These "tough guys", who are not getting paid millions of dollars a year to play, must have amazing dental insurance and/or not care about their livelihood being affected by an errant stick or random puck deflection for a nothing game, seen by no one, in Bowness at midnight on a Tuesday. But I guess if you're absolutely petrified that someone, somewhere ever might think you're "not tough" it's worth it.

If you don't want to wear a cage that's your choice, it doesn't impact anyone but yourself, but it ceased to impress me a long time ago.

Is there any possibility that Jason Kenney runs NHL Player Safety in his spare time? Their enforcement standards are remarkably similar.

Players receive cross checks to the back regularly that are far more malicious than whatever that was. Penalty/misconduct yes, negligence or suspension? I don't see it.
My issue with this is this guy looked down at a player lying flat on his face, doing nothing, and decided the best thing to do was to punch them in the back of the head. I don't care that he kind of maybe missed, or that the player didn't get seriously injured this time. I don't want that person in general public much less in my favorite sport attempting to hurt good entertaining players (ie, all players that are not him and his ilk). Is the NHL better for having him in it? All he is is a liability to their most valuable assets. I don't understand why they would want to let him continue to work for them.

You sound like the kind of idiot who crosschecks guys when there is incidental contact because you're such a tough guy. Unless you're taking a paycheck from playing everyone has to get up and work in the morning. Protecting the livelihood of your family and avoiding eye injuries is the smart thing to do. It's recreational sports not the idiotic thunderdome you imagine in your head.

Pffft, easy for you to say that behind your shin pads.
Go back to soccer!

I've shattered my shins 4 times blocking shots, but that's hockey.

Just about everyone: *Playing beer league hockey cause it's fun and we like hanging out with our buddies

That one guy: *crosschecks dude who got anywhere near his goalie

Just about everyone: "What the **** dude, chill out it's beer league"

That one guy: "Yeah, keep chirping behind that bird cage"

NHL Scout in the stands (apparently): "Get me that guy's phone number!"

You guys are too hard on him, he's obviously lost a few brain cells already.

But it's honestly kind of sad. Continuing playing with your life like that and it'll catch up to you very soon. And I'm not even saying think about yourself (cause you don't seem to care), but think about the people that may depend on you.

Wear the cage for them so they don't live in hardship if you end up seriously injured.

I wrestle naked like the original Olympians. Plus it gets a lot of forfeits from opponents.
