Yippee
They are expected to score as our highest paid players.....
Is that too much? Or just showing up is enough?

Yup. Line was -3. Backlund and lucic deserve assists on a few oiler goals directly

A bit of an exaggeration - I think maybe 5. There’s a few giveaway monsters on the team. Johnny had a worse one tonight from the same spot, but got lucky. Andersson has a ton, Backlund, Tkachuk, Monahan. It’s maybe the high IQ guys trying stuff, actually now that I think about it. You don’t see it with less creative guys.

Scoring Winger

Tough game for a flames fan. It sux.
I would put tkatchuk back with Backlund and see if they could re-create some chemistry.

well, they did score, and ended the night with 1 goal for and none against
Backlund's line was on the ice for 4 ES goals against
Seems a bit odd to be directing the angst on Monahan's line, given those facts

Highest paid players: Tkachuk, Gio, Gaudreau, Monahan, Markstrom, Backlund, and Lucic.
I would argue that not a single one of these 7 players is fully earning their paycheck based on their stats. Some might say Gaudreau (24 points in 30 games) and Markstrom (90.3%) are.
The 8th and 9th highest paid players, Hanafin and Lindholm, definitely are. In fact, most of the other players are.

I hate this call when it’s a ticky tack tap.
When I grew up my coach would tell me to hold on to my damn stick.

I find it interesting how sutter keeps stating this team doesn't have the high end stars to play anything but a strong checking game. I think most hockey fans would agree, but I do wonder how much the flames top forwards feel about that (gaudreau, monahan, tkachuk, specifically).

They just strike me as a team that reached its zenith a couple of years ago, plateaued, and will only trend slowly downward now. Better to cash in the chips they have and buy into a new table before they find themselves skint.
The Flames have lots of nice pieces, and I'm still optimistic that with the Seattle disruption and the flat salary cap that there are some good deals to be made out there. Two or three major changes might be all it takes to rebuild this team in the right direction.

At the very least it’s time to try something new. This core has been given a long leash and has proved that it’s not up to the task. At some point you just have to accept reality and realize this isn’t a Stanley cup contender or even a playoff contender.
The pieces are there to acquire some nice assets but I don’t know if Tre is the guy to do it. This roster has declined over the last several seasons and even casual observers could admit to that.
Bring in a Dean Lombardi and let him and Darryl construct this team with their vision. Change is definitely required and that should continue with the GM’s position.
My biggest concern with this team is that it lacks a real threat. Complimentary pieces are required but you can’t have an entire lineup of 2nd and 3rd liners. I really wish it would have worked with this group but it is what it is. Time to move on.

No shame getting dominated by the Oilers, yet again.

Imagine having 4 first overall picks in the last 10 years, multiple other picks in the top 5, potentially the two best players in the game currently, and yet having zero....yes ZERO chance of winning Lord Stanley.

Yup. If someone knocked the stick out of our hands, it was an embarrassment.
Now pros let it happen to draw a penalty. The fact that the refs call it, is the new embarrassment.

I'm not a troll i'm an objective Oilers fan.
If the Flames are good enough to be in the playoffs, i'm hoping for a BOA, It would be great for both fanbases.
