Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the Jets have come back in the back half to win in similar fashion at MTS a few times against us.

It's just been almost 2 years since we've played there so that's why it's easy to forget.

You're definitely not advised to turn on the coverage of the Oilers, no. It's laughably amateur in all the worst, most homerish ways.

Tanev and Markstrom played well. CGY needs to be able to recover better when things don't go their way - just stick to structure and claw the game back. They need to be able to start executing again. I don't know who on the team or staff can get them to do this - you have to have someone or some line you can go to that will be able to push back with execution. They need a group that is going to get the momentum back, give a confidence boost - each guy should want to do that and not wait for someone else.

It seems they get too content when they get a lead and let the foot off - this has been an issue for a while.

I think Ward needs to be a better in game tactician (I understand as road team the opponent gets last change) but you have to know a team is going to come out with their top guys after the first period.

Now of course it was the first game but the opponent recovered after a bad start so it's kind of hollow to say well we were rusty - find a way.

There were nerves..too many passes into the skates.

CGY is going to be good. They have a lot of skill and a lot of good players. There were some good things in this game but they need that fortitude plus some better tactical adjustments. Stick to it, stick together and learn from this game. Lots of good but just need to be sharper and stronger.

I moved to Australia in November 2009. Still waiting to watch a home opener win here.
You might as well save yourself some time and just go out for a kangaroo kick in the balls instead.

Well, they're getting paid like top line players.

Monahan for the reportedly available Barkov or Dubois would be a godsend.

This was pretty predictable, they never win on opening night. Knowing this I bet on Winnipeg. OT loss, still get a point.

First period was pretty spectacular, they were buzzing. Markstrom looked pretty good for his 1st game. Made some incredible saves.

Hell of a first period, then a pile of awful puck management and we’re lucky to get a point....

Sucks to lose after that great start. But the Flames caught some breaks in the third and were lucky to get a point.

At least we know this group's potential when they are clicking is high.

The problem is maintaining it through a damn intermission.

Didn't notice Sean line at all tonight. Bad game picking up where they left off.

Lindholm line was good in the first, meh rest of game.

When Bennett switched to Backs line that was our best line from there on out.

Tanev was great, I thought Hanifin was good too, they were our top pairing tonight.

Valamaki is looking wasted on the third pairing. Time to move Gio off top assignments.

Didn't see much from Leivo and Nordstrom. Early times.

Overall we were lucky with the point.

It seems every time you looked the Jets were beating Gio to the outside. Are the Jets that fast a team or has Gio slowed down?

Not the Valimaki that was expected. Nesterov looked at least as good.

Markstrom was the Flames best player

I thought the Lindholm line was atrocious after the 1st period.
Monahan was fantastic defensively all game but that line did nothing offensively at evens.
Bennett needs to play in the top nine.
Lucic looked like he hadn’t skated at all since the post season.
Leivo did nothing to impress.
Valimaki and Nesterov played well.
Markstrom and Tanev were exactly as advertised.
Giordano has lost a step and his minutes need to be limited.
Bring Simon in for Lucic or Nordstrom. They sucked.

All in all I’ll take the point. It’s a season opener after all.

Gio has slowed down big time. The drop in play since he won the norris is unreal but honestly to be expected given his age. Has not been the same player.

Well Tanev looked good, so there’s that. The forwards as a group were bad the last 40. And when they did get a chance (Bennett with a couple) they couldn’t hit the net.

Moving on.
