Tbh I think you might be right about that. Fast is one I could really see going either way. Smith and Toffoli end that argument pretty quickly though.

I think Fast will be significantly more highly coveted than Smith due to age, cost, ES production and the fact Fast kills penalties.

I don't know why I was thinking Smith killed penalties earlier in the thread, but I was off-base about that.

So, my free agent wish list, by position. I'm not including Lehner because he's for all intents and purposes signed. My wishlist is heavily based on being able to add the players without being forced into non-hockey trades.

Goaltending
  1. Jacob Markstrom
  2. Cam Talbot
  3. Braden Holtby

Defense
  1. Tyson Barrie
  2. Dylan DeMelo
  3. Sami Vatanen

Wingers
  1. Taylor Hall
  2. Tyler Toffoli
  3. Mike Hoffman
  4. Ilya Kovalchuk
  5. Jesper Fast

Center
  1. Brad Richardson
  2. Derek Grant
  3. Alan Quine

Man there are a lot of good RW free agents this year. Very few good LW.
Can you add in every player’s birthplace, astrological signs, handedness, and maybe if it’s not any trouble their junior team? Mmmk, thanks.

Jesper Fast on a reasonable deal would be a good add.

Aside from that, past history has shown that the FA pool isn't a pool for this team to be splashing around in.

on TSN1050 in Toronto yesterday (or the day before) they were discussing Hall and mentioned that he might be open to a shorter "show me" deal to get through this frozen cap landscape with the right team that could win now.

would anyone object to a 2 or 3 year deal at 7 or 7.5 per?

I think if he is going short term like that he will go to a team like the Avs who are a legit contender and can sign him.

I think the Flames only chance is going with a big money, long term deal

2 or 3 years at 7? The only one I can see against that is Hall.

they speculated that the Avs could do that before MacKinnon is due for a huge raise.

He could also use it to get 9 years with the Flames.

Sign 1 year x 6, then when he's allowed he could sign for 8 more years.

Vladislav Namestnikov is a prime regression candidate, but I at the right term I would be interested.

Object? That would be the dream. Get him for cheap, without giving up assets? We would be fools not to do that.

Colin Wilson is someone who could come cheap. This season was basically a write off for him, but could potentially bounce back.

I always liked his game going back to Nashville and always wondered when he was going to break out. Never happened, but he could be a cheap 3/4 C option that can play on the wing.

Yeah if we are signing Hall, the shorter the term, the better.

I haven't seen any signs of regression. He plays whatever role he is asked to do, and some coaches give him a role that is not high in scoring opportunities. To me, he is a perfect middle six RW, although he is left handed.

Hall has a much higher chance of regression, and whereas Namestnikov is 27 and will sign for four years, Hall is 28 and will command a seven year term. The last two years of Hall's tenure (wherever he lands) is going to be ugly.

Namestnikov is a harder hitting Frolik, with a bit more upside offensively. He would be the smart signing.

Reminds me a bit of Jamie McGinn, who never got another contract after his injury-plagued final year in Florida. From what I've seen and heard, Wilson's injury is a fair amount worse. He got hurt really early on in the year and wasn't even ready for the play-ins. From what I remember, McGinn got hurt in October and was back in March.

That's top-96 free agent Greg McKegg to you.

If the Flames sign Greg McKegg and bring back the Blasty jerseys I may have the perfect combo in mind.

I know he’s on the list. But I’m for paying him minimum just for the memes.
