How important is size and nastiness?

Montreal already has Weber, Chiarot, Petry who are bigger and meaner than any d-man on the Flames.

It's not like the price is out of whack. The Pens once gave up a third for the rights to Dan Hamhuis. The Oilers gave up a 5th for Nikita Nikitin.

Don't really pay much attention to other teams 6/7 dmen like Chiarot, so don't know him, but Petry is anything but "nastiness" he is not small, but he is not a physical player.

It's obvious you don't pay attention if you think Chiarot is a 6/7 defenseman.

Petry 30 hits in 10 playoff games.. He led Montreal in hits with 177 hits over the regular season.

Chiarot 23:07 TOI in the playoffs 3rd highest on the team More playoff TOI than any Flame defenseman. Gio had 22:47... getting ready for his role as 6/7 on the Flames.

Chiarot had 23:08 in 69 regular season games

Must be the best 6/7 D-man in NHL history.

-------------

Maybe you meant to say you don't any attention to any other team.

And at the end of the day 95% of GM's would take the Flames D core over the Habs

What does that have to do with anything? This literally has nothing to do with the Flames

How thin Montreals D was, that a 6/7 defenseman had to play top three minutes.

The usual suspects have been using this MINOR trade to bash the Flames...I think he was just responding to the resident troll at the top of the page who was the one that had to make it about the Flames...12th seed with price in net, shrewd moves indeed.

Are you kidding me? Chiarot also played close to 20 minutes a night in Winnipeg. He's a borderline top 4 defensemen. Calling him a 6/7 defenseman is simply untrue.

Also of note, famed Winnipeg Jets booster Ricardo finally came out with some useful stats pumping up a former jet.

This surprised absolutely no one.

So it's the Michael Stone deal with one extra year.

Well, I'll reserve any further judgement until I see him on the ice.

Indeed, which is why any further judgement can only come after seeing him on the ice. But IMO this contract is roughly $2.5 million too expensive per year and three years too long.
