I did once, but I think it was as a school trip.

Yeah, we went on a school trip in Grade 3 or 4.
My Dad worked with the wife of the guy who ran the Grain Academy. I believe he built a lot of the exhibits himself, including the big model railroad display inside.

My junior high had some event at the Corral with various goofy competitions on the dirt infield along with some other schools. At the end we supposedly set a Guinness record for the longest chain of people sitting on each other’s laps.
Bingo mentioned how steep it was and I recall a good old fashioned scrap with another school resulting in several boys tumbling down the steps. Lucky no one died.

I have a feeling that hallway may get torn out because Hall A is getting demolished along with the Corral. I think they are ripping out the foyer of the original BMO Centre along Halls A, B, and C. Looking forward to this new convention centre!

It's just such an odd feature I guess.
"Here hockey fans, take the train to the arena!"
"But wait, there's more! Marvel at the Agrarian Society's exhibit! Wonder at the hall of advertising posters! Stand in awe of the large concrete exhibition hall with nothing in it! Become fascinated by random inside/outside path you take in the coldest winter you've ever experienced, and ask yourself why the designer didn't make the entire goddam thing indoors!"
It's weird, and I'll miss the hell out of it.

Oh man did you nail it with this one. Great post! Those are the feelings/memories so many of us had marching along with our parents.

Yep. Grade two field trip, like many here have said.
Still remember the taste of the wheat grains or whatever it was they let us try...

I live out of town and we ALWAYS parked in the lot at the bottom of the spiral staircase. I don't drink so I was usually the designated driver. It was always good fun after the game, negotiating the drunks along the walkway, down the stairs and into the car (to head to Cowboys).
I think that lot is a condo complex or something now.

For a long time that hallway had the weirdest smell. I will miss both.

In its time that railroad display was head and shoulders better than anything you would see at Supertrain back when it was held in the Big 4 25+ years ago. It's still impressive now on a standalone basis. Respect!

Whoa, I must have completely glossed over this when the Corral demolition was first announced.
I can't find anything about it on Calgary.ca, is there an official design or project document for it? I'd love to read up on it.

The above renderings show how 17th Ave will pass the BMO Centre inside Stampede Park.
Here's the CMLC Project page: https://www.calgarymlc.ca/17th-avenue-extension
The extension of 17th Ave into Stampede Park will be done as part of the reconfiguring of the Victoria Park C-Train station. I believe the construction work is supposed to begin in the spring, but I don't know if that's still on-pace.

It opened on Boxing Day 70 years ago today with a game against Edmonton. 5-0 for the good guys. E=NG!
Fans phoned the mayor a day later to complain about a ref's call, LOL.

Check out http://https://calgary.skyrisecities.com/forum/threads/calgary-bmo-centre-expansion-m-s-cmlc.29320/page-21 if you want to see current demolition updates. The entire walkway is now demolished along with a good chuck of Hall A of the BMO building.

I presume some of those concrete blocks on the outside are sandstone based, are they trying to save some?
