He'll have to fight Dalton Smith for number 67.

Sweet, a top 100 pick.

Time for another Gaudreau 9 years later.

In all seriousness, I loved having him on the team. But, with younger and better guys starting to prove themselves worthy of a spot, I am more than happy to let Frolik and his two way abilities, along with that 4.3m cap to be used elsewhere. I hope Czarnik gets recalled again as he has been lighting it up in the AHL.

Buffalo also made a trade with the Habs today?

4th round pick replaced via sending Scandella to MTL, according to Sabres twitter account

Wishing Fro all the best. Excellent job by Tre to get a 4th for him and opening up over $4M in cap space which is much needed.

Quick note worth mentioning as well was that Dubas paid a 1st round pick to dump 1 year of Patrick Marleau’s $6M. You have to imagine this 4th wasn’t available in the summer, otherwise Frolik would have been moved and we probably wouldn’t have bridged Chucky.

Yeah, Dubas is not only bad at negotiating with his own RFAs

So you are saying you have given up on this team this year? I get Jankowski but a bit early to sell the others don't you think? We can easily still make the playoffs.

That was the pick they sent to the Flames for Frolik.

Well, part of the cost of that was actually buying Marleau out. because he was on a 35+ contract, the canes ate the whole cap hit and also paid out 4.6 million bucks.

Frolik's salary this year was I believe 3 million, and half of that has been paid out, so it's a 4th round pick for a warm body actually in the lineup for about 1.5 million.

I gotta agree though, this deal was not out there this summer. Getting a 4th without retaining salary is good return, but getting it now is even better IMO.

If you're going to make cap moves like this you want to get them done as early as you can IMO.

Let’s not be trading Brodie!! I think he is more important to the team than most fans realize.

I liked Frolik. He was a good signing. I also didn't mind him in the bottom 6 this year. That said it's good to get a pick and make some capspace. I hope Tre waits to use the new cap space. This team needs to show him that its worth using. If they are not in a playoff spot come the deadline, i hope other ufa's are traded.

Makes sense. Really like Frolik. He was always hustling and willing to play a defensive role when asked.

This year, Mangiapane was starting to take his space in the top 6, and the Flames need faster offensive players in their top 6. Good deal for the Flames, not retaining any cap, and hopefully Frolik can finish up the season on a high note, with more ice time, and get a good contract next year.

This does make me wonder what else Treliving has planned though.

the difference of course is that the Leafs had to dump Marleau's deal or they would've been over the cap.

Now if we could unload Janko so we can spend more on a real top 6 😊

This is a great deal. No complaints and I hope he does really well in Buffalo too. Likeable player I thought outside of last years weird shenanigans.

Where’s dinoc7 and my props for being positive?

I really hope this isn’t a cap move to set the stage for loading up for a run. Sat through too many stank games this season to have much confidence in this roster.

Frolik turned out to be a very good UFA signing. No problems with him or this trade. Hope he does really well with Buff and can find a nice contract next summer.

Nice to have a little bit of cap room!
