Oh and I think my offer yesterday was probably closet to what they got outside of the 1st and conditional.

That seems like a very underwhelming return for Hall.
The only guaranteed 1st rounder is likely to be lower than #20 and no prospects that I would call blue chips, although Bahl is interesting. Merkley has bust written all over him.

Yeah it fits. What it would force us to do is bridge Andersson and let Hamonic/Brodie walk (which seems like a good idea anyways).

I’d pay two 1st round picks for 8.5 seasons of Taylor Hall.
...but we’ve been a horrid franchise for 40 years, save a handful of seasons.

I want Taylor Hall as much as anyone else, but it looks like with the conditions made that it's likely that he pursues the opportunity of being a UFA... And that means we have an opportunity of signing him.
The problem is either putting Gaudreau or Tkachuk on their off wing. The second problem, which is way harder to do, is fitting Hall within our cap structure and staying competitive... I just don't think it's happening.

You really overrate Mangy and Kylington.

One has to wonder if the Devils would have got a better return near the deadline. Or maybe they don't have a lot of faith Hall may be healthy at that point. Sure seems like they are somewhat worried about him getting injured.

something like this:
Kylington (Bahl) + Ruzicka (Schnarr) + Gawdin (Merkley-ish) + 1st (1st) + 2nd (3rd)

But why wait when you had a bidding war with 5 teams? Apparently, the Devils went with the best deal of the bunch, so my guess is no. I think by deadline it would have been an underwhelming return.

The prospects the Coyotes sent aren't exactly A prospects.

With Hall, there's a risk of him getting injured and not even helping out during the playoff push and / or the playoffs. I think Arizona paid a pretty big price for a pure rental. I just can't see Hall re-signing with that team in the off season.

That’s a whole lot of meh. Rather just keep the picks and prospects.

Maybe, but I get the feeling that NJ was terrified he was going to get hurt again, so they were more interested in getting whatever they could now, rather than seeing him walk for nothing in July.

I'm in this 31 team fantasy league and I manage the Coyotes, with their current players and prospects.
In doing some research on that team, this is what I think about the players involved:
Kevin Bahl reminds me of Wotherspoon. Not commenting on how he will pan out in the NHL, just in terms of style of play. Solid defensive defenseman, good positioning, decent skater, tough to play against. Upside is maybe like a Hjalmarsson.
Schnarr reminds me of Gawdin. Bit of a late bloomer, smart player, decent size. I think he tops out as a responsible 3rd or 4th line guy.
Merkley has always reminded me a bit of Shinkaruk. Smaller guy, decent skill, has a bit of a mean streak when he's on but is mostly seen as a bit of a floater. Boom or bust type of a guy. Also older than the other guys.
The 1st and (likely) 3rd are probably the most valuable pieces NJ got back.
I think it's a fair deal for a few months of Hall. I can't really say who won or lost - I think it's pretty even.
My guess is the Flames didn't want to part with the 1st without any conditions on it, and probably wanted to get a sense of whether Hall was going to re-sign. This is purely my speculation based on what I've read.
I think it would have been nice to get Hall at that price, but I don't think it was necessarily a great deal that we missed out on. Hopefully we can add another top 6 piece later in the season.

I still think Zucker would be a fantastic fit on this team.
