The PP has been awful for much much longer than that. Pretty sure it wasnt that great under Hartley either. Take them binoculars now and turn them squarely at the players.

Well, if that’s the case then it’s on Tree. If we don’t have the personnel to have a good PP, why hasn’t it been addressed?
It’s an organizational issue top to bottom.

This team is 15th in goals for 15th goals against 15th in the league. Okay that's wrong was looking for stats that didn't exist, but this team is average in so many ways.
wait that might be right, #### it I'm having another drink.

Yeah exactly, gaining possession of the puck in the offensive zone sucks. Also, having the puck, in the defensive zone is horrible too.

One thing I will be critical of Peters on though is his line management through 22 games. It’s a whirlwind of useless changes that get reverted almost as soon as they’re cooked up.

The PP was pretty good last year...8th most PP goals in the league. Same group of guys this year mostly.
Again this comes back to the intensity the players are exhibiting. All those passes to no one...passes in the feet repeatedly....missing the net with wide open looks... all those kind of details. That isn't coaching, its guys just not focused on what they have to do to be successful or unwilling to do what is needed.

That’s cherry picking a stat I think. Percentage wise they were 18th. That’s not good enough. Nowhere near good enough.

The team just isn't built well enough. But the Flames need stability, according to some.
Mediocre and more mediocre, but stable mediocre.

What was the last meaningful mid-season NHL player-for-NHL player trade the Flames made? Bourque for Cammalleri?
Lazar for Jokipakka doesn't count, those two combined for six total games played in 2016-17 with their respective teams post-trade.

You build down the middle.
Based on the play of Monahan, Backlund, and Jankowski, we're essentially a donut team.

Flames cut the rebuild short with the Hamonic and Elliott trades and now lack the organizational depth to fill out their whole roster, but I’d still argue Tree is moving the organization forward.
He’s facing a big challenge right now. The core and depth are both letting the team down, how do you move forward? Difficult waters to navigate.
Do you double down on this core and try and boost their confidence with a show of faith by complimenting them with a costly acquisition? Force them to fail or succeed as-is (not going well so far)?

Will you please STFU about the guy who got the 2nd lowest amount of ice time on the team today, like he's responsible for anything? I mean, don't worry about the guys who are paid to make difference, and get the ice time to make a difference, who don't make a difference, let's focus on the guys who are working with seven minutes of even strength ice time.
This is a team than needs an enema, starting with Johnny Gaudreau. This is a guy that doesn't look like he wants to be here. Accommodate him. Move him out and improve the team just by having players that want to be here. If you can't find enough of those, maybe its time to re-think everything.

IMO a coaches job is to have a structure for the team to play within and make sure they understand how that is to be done to be successful. He also has to put his players in the right position within that framework for them to succeed.
Its almost entirely up to the players whether or not they are ready willing to do so. For most of last year this club was bought in to what he was selling and it was working in spades. Then the AS break happened for them and when they got back they simply didnt play the same way consistently as they had been and it showed. This year...more of the same but even less consistency and willingness to do what they are being told.
I guarantee that a core player is dealt long before any coaching changes happen...IIRC BT said as much some time ago.
If the guys want to know how to fix this thing, all they have to do is look in the mirror...but self-reflection is hard as a group.
