They could have made it work. Frolik and Brodie gone. Buy out Neal instead of trading him for Lucic. That should be more than enough space.

You're right.
It was by the faceoff dot, but on his backhand and Rittich lost it behind him while spinning away from the post.
The point remains that Rittich biffed on a poor angle backhand while spinning away from safety.
