If true the Leafs should have told Kadri that if he didn’t accept to the Flames he was being shopped elsewhere and he was getting traded regardless. I just think the outlook of the team all summer would have changed for me had that deal gone through.
Adding Kadri and Lucic would have been a more clear direction for me. Our Centre depth would be as strong as it has been since the 80’s and the contract is really solid for 3 more years.

He had Calgary on his NTC for a reason and that's because he either didn't want to play in Calgary or like a lot of Canadian players he would prefer to play in a US city where they can be more anonymous.

They probably did have that conversation and he chose Colorado.
He probably looked at the first round series and playing with Mackinnion as a better opportunity than the Flames.
Can't say I blame him. I'd trade any player on the Flames roster for Mackinnion. If Kadri wants to win, and if he was given this choice, he probably made the decision that the majority of players would have made.

He wouldn’t get a player like Tkachuk to play with in Colorado unless they split Landeskog and Rantanen up. He almost certainly would have played with Tkachuk had the Flames deal gone through.

Line-up almost looks perfect except I would love to see:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Bennett
Lucic-Ryan-Frolik
Mangiapane-Jankowski-Czarnik
Giordano-Brodie
Hanifin-Hamonic
Kylington-Andersson
Rittich (Starter)
Talbot

I think it was more the Flames were on his 10 team no trade clause but the Avs weren't so he had no say.

Or he thought that, because he didn’t want to be traded, he’d fill the list with teams that would be most likely to trade for him. And leave off teams that would be sellers. I’m suggesting that a lot of players work that kind of thinking out with their agents in creating NTC lists.
It wouldn’t surprise me, for example, if TB was also on the list.

Hope for the best.
Expect the usual opener.
Be glad Flames hockey is back, with legit high expectations, either way.

As long as the Flames look prepared to play I'll be happy. That hasn't been the case in so many of the season openers since... well, time immemorial, it seems.
The Flames could play really well and still lose tonight on the road against a good team (who seem to have our number), so I just want to see a team that's prepared and competes hard. I hope those are reasonable expectations.

Glad Hockey is finally back. I'm totally expecting us to get absolutely blown out of the water tonight as we are always perpetual slow starters. Here's hoping I'm wrong but I'm probably not. GFG!
