Had an idea!

Safeway doughnuts are great. Was pretty disappointed when the local blood services donation drive quit offering them after giving blood. Safeway was right across the street, and they also donated a bunch of doughnuts. They stopped right when COVID started, and now they just offer packaged snacks.

Annoying that there are no gluten friendly options available in all the breads and pastries.

I don't mind their breakfast wraps.

I dont mind their coffee, donuts, breakfast wrap, chicken sandwich/wrap/burger or 'insert latest food craze' if I want to be on the can for the rest of the day.

At $3.50 a donut I would hope they're really good. That's triple the cost of places like Safeway and Glamorgan Bakery IIRC...

Oh man, when they came out with the “loaded bowls” I had a good chuckle. Never has a food item been so aptly named with what will happen if you eat it.

Is it really that surprising though...? Canadians (outside of Montreal island) aren't known for our refined palettes or any sort of culinary prowess. Tim Hortons is a classic example of the Canadian mediocrity stereotype.

I suppose you are right but I think Tim Hortons has done a really good job of creating an illusion that eating there is a Canadian pastime.

I feel like they’ve made *some* strides with their food in the past couple years - I had a wrap there a while back and it didn’t seem awful. Though, I generally agree that it’s perplexing to see so many people there at normal times when not constrained by something like it being late at night or at an airport.

HAH! came to post this same thing.
Wife was out there for work randomly and was told to go.
Donut blows anything in Calgary out of the water, they were so good it was insane.
They dont need to cover their their donuts in 1000 candies/crap to make it taste better etc like all the new places that pop up seem to be, the batter they use was great on its own.
I'd rather spend a few more bucks on a freshly made "real" donut than pay for a pre-cooked Tim's donut any day.

I mean, you’re obviously right that there are other ingredients too.
But I think calumniate was saying they are “just coconut oil” in the same way that donuts are “just sugar.” There are other ingredients too but more sugar than you should probably be eating.
The point is that beyond meat is not particularly healthy.

They’re good but I actually find Hoopla better overall and Jelly has better flavours.
The donuts themselves are really good at Donut Man but some of their flavourings/topping are pretty meh or bad.

The farmer's sausage wrap is very good fast food. If I'm an uncultured savage for liking it, then so be it.

Hoopla is over rated and I find that their special flavours, monthly or seasonal, are very hit or miss. My office gets Hoopla all the time for meetings and while I enjoy the sugar fix I often struggle to find a donut that I actually want in the box.
Jelly Modern is good although as a walk-in customer they don't always have a good selection of flavours available.
