I am shocked the poker player isn't as good at reading people outside of poker as he thought he was...

lying about island of the idols was a pretty bad move. in 2 more episodes someone on her tribe will know, and I don't see how she doesn't have everyone turn on her as soon as they know she can't be trusted.

I thought about that too, that lying about it was dumb. But the quickest way out of that was "Well, that's how it was for me." It's a thin lie, but if you have the charismatic mojo, you may make it stick.
I'd probably have let them know that R&S were there, and we talked, and that's about it (since it can be easily inferred that R&S are the idols)

I dunno when the next person gets there and sees the statues and those 2 are they really going to believe that she just got to hit some urns? I don't think so.

I should've known better than to take a poker player. The best poker player was Jean Robert from China and he barely made it to the jury.

Seriously, he looks and acts like he was Harvey Weistein's protégé, I guess he's probably pretty representative of the old school Hollywood management industry. It was made even worse by how filthy sweaty he was - he was literally dripping gobs of yellow sweat onto the women as he repeatedly stroked them. So nasty. How could someone be so clueless in this post Weinstein era?
I'm still not keen on the Idol island concept, but hopefully this season's schtick isn't as horrible in execution as the last season.
I woulda taken Rob on too because losing your first round vote is not a high cost. I don't think it was fair for anyone to assume there was room for negotiation.
What I really don't understand is how a contestant can go on this show after watching any of the last 38 seasons, and hasn't learned how to make fire in time for the casting. As soon as I found out I was going to be on the show, I would be learning and practicing the sh*t outta those "survivor" skills.

If I was apply to survivor, I'd make sure that I knew how to build a shelter from tropical plants, make a fire, cook rice, and be able to kill either chickens or wild life.
On top of it, because its for a million bucks, I'd find a personal trainer and review every game ever played.
I'd pump my system full of roids, and start learning how to live on very little food a day.
I wonder if they really try to filter out super athletes and look more for personality.

I've heard they do exactly that. Its akin to the casting for shows like the Price is Right, where they prioritize entertainment value and exclude clear runaway candidates.
In addition to all your prep I'd also dress more appropriately. Nothing worse than the idiots who bring a tight ball hugging european suit to the island for 30+ days.

You don't get to pick your "outfit". The producers do.

Yup
https://www.zmonline.com/the-latest/...bout-survivor/
While cast members are allowed to bring their own clothes to the show, it doesnt mean they can wear whatever they want. Producers get to decide what they wear. They have even picked out bathing suits before for players. There are of course the nerdy guys who end up wearing a long sleeved shirt. It's not his fault. The producers made him do it.
Cochran, who is a well known Survivor player, who won the championship one year never wore sweater vests in the real world for example, but the producers told him to wear one because it looked smart and nerdy.
also
If you're trying to get on Survivor, your chances are worse than you thought.
While they get tens of thousands of applications, only a handful are what they are interested in. They usually recruit people to be on the show that they think would make good contestants. For example on the Survivor Fiji season, all of the players were recruited except for one.
and Challenges
Well, they are actually a surprise when Jeff Probst announces them the first time but it doesn't quite go down how we think it does. A member of the production crew does a walk through of the challenges with all the contestants, and makes sure they understand what is going on. The players can ask questions and think of strategies while they do this. There is also a group of people that run through it first as a sort of dress rehearsal while the crew gets all set up.
So, they don't know what the challenge is going to be when it is announced but by the time it happens, they have heaps of time to try and work out how they're going to do it, and numerous people have already gone through and tested it.

I knew the other two, but this one I kind of just expected. I figured they run the same number of people through in gangs as there are current survivors, and they likely do it dozens of times to make sure that it's not too hard or broken, and so that the camera guys know where to be to get good/dramatic angles.

The recruiting thing is a little disheartening but honestly makes sense, it's probably the only way this show stayed as viable as it has for as long as it has.
Has anyone here tried to apply yet now that Canadians can? I wonder what the actual odds are of getting on the show.

I don’t think the recruit thing is all that true anymore. Listening to the pre interviews for the last 3 or 4 seasons, most have a pretty solid understanding of the game and have watched a lot of previous seasons.

Well, that was quite the episode.
Aaron with a temper tantrum, never a good sign
One of my players is an unlikable whiner...great.
Still not sure why Kellee lied about what the Island is like (though she was closer than the other lady). Folks are gonna figure it out.
I liked the lesson from the Idols today. Managing interpersonal relationships is one of the flagship moves of Survivor, and it's so important. You need to get people on your side, and the fastest way to do that is to listen to them and make them feel heard.
Loved the blindside at the Tribal. This really seems like it's going to be an interesting, strategic season.

I think Kellee was good telling them about the giant heads and then just breaking urns. She could always say I never met them.
Idol in the hair was very clever as well. I’m liking this pick...
Then there’s Jamal. 1st gear. What the hell buddy
