The play-by-play guys are much more important than the panelists.

Yeah, people pining for intermission analysis is pretty much lost on me.

Kypreos was ok. Trying to be an insider for him started offf terribly forced. By the end he had some specific leads.
The regional analysis was useless, sometimes in was McLean, sometimes someone else like Colby Armstrong, and usually they went through other games and then gave 90 seconds to a story. Nothing special.

They dropped it last year, but the extended after hours they did a few years ago was great. After the interviews with whatever players were done, the panel, now on couches, casually talked about some games that, and other topics in hockey, and that is where Hrudey and Kypreos shines; there was no script or time restrictions, and stories would come out from those two guys as hockey players, not the forced points they had to try and jam into an intermission and 180 seconds of talk time.

Shannon was a plant (and he wanted to be there) to move to Edmonton so they could have the inside access to chronicle the rise of McDavid himself and how he was going to lead the Oilers back to prominence. Sounds silly but it’s true. And the Oilers (Lowe) desperately have always wanted the national media to be fully onside with him so that he could help control the narrative, so having a full time national guy around to become party of the extended club, worked to satisfy both Lowe and Shannon’s ego.

Good riddance to him.

Certainly an overpay for all those guys when the contract started, and now those contracts are likely all up and Snet likely cutting those salaries significantly, which those guys won’t stomach.

Hopefully Hrudey stays in Calgary on weekend and and does Satiellite Hot Stove.

And for the record, TSn was not much better. They went straight to Sporscentre after games, and only why a guy like McKenzie or Lebrun were on taking about a big story, was it worth watching. Tsn dramticized the national games, where there had to be some theme or story/issue that they both created and then pounded on all night, whether it be Ferraro or Maguire or the whole crew on the pbp, and the analysis between periods wasn’t much better.

Kypreos, Shannon, and especially MacLean were all horrible; Sportsnet has instantly made their broadcast better by simple addition by subtraction.

Now please work on purging the garbage from the PBP and colour crews.

Remember a year or so ago when Francis left his newspaper job and threatened us all with a comment about how we'd seeing more of him? I thought he was getting more radio time or would be on Flames broadcasts more but really nothing changed in that regard.

Bullet dodged?

I didn't mind Kypreos, Shannon was terrible.

Dream Team:

Host: Leah Hextall
Interviewer: Ryan Leslie
PBP: Rick Ball
Colour: Kelly Hrudey (sub: Cassie Campbell)

Radio - I don't really mind the current team. I think they would do well to try some new things. E.g. Pinder-PBP with Loubo-colour.

Has there been any confirmation that Shannon is leaving too? I've only seen that one speculation from the Toronto media guy.

Shannon tweeted responses to Kypreos and Maclean's "leaving" tweets but nothing about himself leaving. He still has "HockeyCentral on Sportsnet" as his Twitter bio.

Is he in denial or did he get saved after the other departures?

I could care less if TSN jumped to Darts right after the game. The broadcast itself was far superior. Sportscrap can't even sync the sound to the picture! it's efffing 2019!!! not 1969.

I think it’s crazy that Kypreos is gone and Don Cherry is still there.

It pays to know where the bodies are buried.

CBC/Sportsnet doesn't want an older WASP revolt if Cherry was forcibly retired. At this point it's til death do us part.
