Matching is a no-brainer, but I would wait the maximum amount of time just out of spite to prevent them making other big signings in the mean time.

Why? It would be less than Aho's, and I really don't care if some team makes Murray Edwards give Chuckie all his money in signing bonuses.

Bad for Tre is another team offer sheets Tkachuk.

I don’t even know if this is that bad for Dundon. I wouldn’t really call it an overpay and your not going to have a long summer negotiation for your franchise C.

Why do people not understand that the FA in RFA means they are allowed to negotiate with every other team in the league. Tkachuk is a free agent. And offer sheet means that the player has accepted the offer.

So if the Sens throw an offer sheet like this to Tkachuk do the Flames match?

the AAV isn't bad for him, the structure with all the SBs is. Still, you HAVE to match that ... you simply can't let your franchise forward leave for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Does he want to play for the Sens?

Yup. If I was Dundon, I'd not only match the offer but I'd also move the team to Quebec and taunt Montreal with him six times a year for five years plus playoffs.

Not if he a) has no interest in signing it, or b) it assures that he is under contract at a digestible number in time for training camp. This deal for Aho essentially guarantees that a potential offer sheet for Tkachuk will be in a palatable range for the Flames.

Besides, given everything we have heard about the negotiation between the Tkachuks and Treliving the past few weeks, I am not convinced that he is especially interested in signing an offer sheet.

Interesting. If Canes match, Habs could go after Point next.

Pierre LeBrun
@PierreVLeBrun
Hearing that the Habs first discussed the offer sheet scenario involving Brayden Point but then shifted gears to Sebastian Aho after thinking they'd have a better chance to get the player. Both Point and Aho are represented by agent Gerry Johansson.

Another thing to keep in mind. Dundon is nuts.

Division rivals should do this to each other more often. If you thought the cap crunch was bad now....

Yup sounds like the Canes are going to announce matching the offer sheet shortly.

Waddell says team reviewing offer sheet to Aho. Announcement soon. Surprised. Said surprised it wasn't for more.

I'm sensing some knowledge of potential up-front cash issues with Dundon...

I am kind of glad that the Canes get screwed a little. I hate teams like them and the Coyotes that whore themselves out to be cap dumpsters for other teams while cheaping out on their own roster.

I would think that would have to be atleast 10+ x 5yrs for Aho to even think about signing that. With taxes and everything hes probably been offered more in Carolina already.
