Interesting thought. Plausible. It has happened to many top notch players over the years.

I remember Iginla. Iggy's 500th goal seemed to take a week longer than expected, he had 497 going into a 7 game road trip and many of us were disappointed that he wouldn't do it on home ice, then he only gets 2 goals in those 7 games, (2 goals in 8 games if you count the last home game). He looked a bit tense at times in those games, even in the game he scored 500. You could see the pressure disappear once he got #500.

Hmm, maybe I'll switch to my 2015 Monahan jersey for a few games

GFG!

There was this time that an entire hockey team went out to dinner and....the rookies had to pay! Made the news, but no one left the team.

Then there was this other time when rookies were made to carry the other guys bags....i wonder how many of them thought that was "undignified" and hated the team because of it?

Again, its how life works in that world and you either suck it up and laugh about it, or you are probably not long for making a living at it.

Luckily there are no shortage of qualified therapists to help Kylington through this difficult time in his life.

The chair thing is laughable really, I do think the flames need to be giving Kylington more playing time. I’m sure he will get back in the lineup soon. He’s had a solid first season, but the flames were never going to go into the playoffs with an all rookie bottom pairing.

Fantenberg is older than Kylington and has played many more NHL games than Kylington, including in the playoffs. There's no discussion here.

I disagree with genetic phreek about this incident (in fact his office analogy just occurred at my work place, we kicked out several analyst level positions from offices into a cubicle area to hire new managers and give them the offices...)

However I do think theres a bit of an old boys club and maybe even some bullying going on in here. Lots of "snowflake" or "snowflake generation" type snubs. Grow up y'all. He's allowed to bring it up and it's healthy to talk about that sort of crap. Pushing him down as a snowflake is no better than calling him fruity or a Nancy. Someone is not a lesser person because they are concerned about the feelings of others- in fact I would posit that they are likely a superior person to you.

Since people are discussing defensemen:

Competition for places on blue line benefits Flames entering playoffs

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...ring-playoffs/

Quote:
Treliving has long been focused on building his team from the blue line out, making the unusual logjam of defenders a delicious quandary.

“Not a problem at all – it’s a good thing because if someone goes down we’ve got lots of depth there and they’re all NHL players,” said Treliving, whose only trade deadline move was to add Oscar Fantenberg from the Kings as defensive insurance.

“It’s going to create a little competition. It’s what we wanted to have because coming down the stretch we’re going to need bodies. Touch wood we haven’t run into injury issues.”

Stone’s return from a three-game conditioning stint in Stockton literally bumped rookie Oliver Kylington from the cozy confines of his stall, to a folding chair at the front of the dressing room.

No shelves for his shaving kit, nowhere to hang anything and no neighbours to talk to.

But he isn’t going anywhere.

He still has just as good a chance at getting into the lineup as Stone, Fantenberg and Dalton Prout moving forward.
Quote:
Unlike the three-headed goalie monster the Flames employed several seasons back with horrific consequences, the abundance of back-enders is something every team would cherish.

Any deep playoff run requires plenty of manpower at the back due to the war of attrition NHL clubs go through each spring.

Treliving insists all nine will stay in town for the balance of the year.

He said he’ll soon need one of his four precious call-ups to summon first-round hotshot Juuso Valimaki from Stockton.

“We actually have 10 defencemen when you think about it,” said Treliving of the left-shooting Valimaki, who is flourishing in the minors following a lengthy recovery from a high ankle sprain.

“We just want to keep him playing right now. It’s exciting because Rasmus is popping all over and the other guy (Valimaki) is going to be a star. He’ll be back. He’s playing 24 to 25 minutes a night, in all situations and has been dominant the last 3 or 4 games.”

Yeah and considering the alternative for Kylington is likely getting sent down to Stockton, that I'm sure he's more than happy to sit in that chair

I first read that Treliving quote as “... Rasmus is pooping all over”.

Still though - he could have been paper transaction'd and sent down before the deadline if the Flames thought it would be an issue. They knew they'd likely have 9 d-man healthy at that time since Stone was skating again already.

This isn't a discussion where there is a right or wrong answer unless Kylington publicly speaks out, so I don't understand your overbearing intent to thought police. Every answer is individual, whether that be from a personal experience or a projection of situation. Just because you feel a certain way about this (((subjective))) topic doesn't mean genetic_phreek or I have to agree. Stop being so pretentious.

@enochroot as well

JC, 'special snowflake' is not a sexist comment. And you suggesting that it is, possibly says more about you than the comment.

And if you can conclude, from a casual and brief internet exchange about Kylington sitting in a chair, that one group are 'superior person(s)' to the other group, well, in the words of of Steve Tyler "Mister, you're a better man than I".

What the serious #### has happened to people?

There was a big article on the Athletic this year about the dressing room, and pecking order. This isn't a new way of hurting Kylington's feelings; it's the process that's been in this and probably every NHL room forever.
