If Matthews went to Columbus, few in Toronto would know who Matthew Austin is. But he's 'generational'
Well once Ovi retires I think it’s between Laine and Matthews for best pure goal scorer in the league. And Matthews has a hell of a lot more complete game than Laine.

Matthews is an elite player regardless of where he’s playing. The term generational is such a stupid one so I won’t delve too much into that. But the suggestion Matthews is only known because he plays in Toronto is absurd. One of the top young players in the game regardless of where he’s playing.

Talk to anyone else in Toronto about the great players in the league, and tell me that Matthews is that much better that he'd be recognizable.

Toronto media hypes their players, that's not new. No one would put 'Matthews' and 'generational' in the same sentence.

Well, if people can say McDiver is generational, I don't see why not Mathews.

Matthews is legitimately one of the best young forwards in the game and it has nothing to do with TOR or their media.

What forwards would you possibly take over him to start a franchise right now? Only McDavid for me. I have Matthews as the 2nd best young forward in the game. Sounds like you’re underrating Matthews. 39 points in 28 games this year BTW.

Yup....and its closer for me than most.

Matthews is the most complete player for his age to come along in a very very long time.

I'm not convinced Hughes is the next "big thing" honestly, I feel its pretty over hyped mind you I've seen limited showings.

Just my gut feeling, I don't see him carrying a team like Crosby/McDavid etc.
He's closer to the Hischier tier than anything, as far as top picks go.
