Come on now, surely you know what he meant. Although his early production was spotty and underwhelming, he was on a 9 game pointless slump entering today’s game.

Glad to see him break it with an assist and point 500

Now for the goals they are paying him for

That Jankowski short handed goal was just sick. Great job pinning the puck and drawing the Coyotes in, then a strong power move off the boards to the front of the net surprised everyone. Slick little move to slide it between the legs of the goaltender. Wow.

Hard to believe this team is +12 despite losing 9-1 one game.

Awesome

That was the most painful loss this season. Including the 9 spot vs Pittsburg

Pretty hilarious that Neal gets off the 9 game pointless schnide by getting an assist where he missed the net on a shot!

Nice to see the defense chipping in for half the goals tonight. Not that it has been an issue, but nice to see the utility of this roster being realized perfectly today.

Sort of OT, but is there any way to find data for which forwards are on the ice for when defensemen score?

It was pointed out on Hanifin's 2nd goal that Backlund covered up for Hanifin on the back-end which gave Hanifin the comfort to jump into the play. Great awareness from both players, and probably something coached as well. I am just curious if certain forwards make it easier more often than others for the defense to jump into the plays like that and if there is data to show that. Of course, not all goals from the defense are from a few feet out from the net like that, so the data set wouldn't be perfect.

.
You can find it in the game summary here:
http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreport...9/GS020358.HTM

It shows who is on the ice for both teams when goals are scored

Edit: It’s not the aggregate data set you are probably looking for

No, but that's OK. It's something I would be interested in keeping an eye on going forward.

Why play with the top two lines? I keep reading post after post that wanna change our top two lines. If we had competent goaltending earlier this year we would be at or near top in points in the whole league. I don't wanna see the top line broken up, Lindholm has been too good and has an awesome shot. Truly one of the top 5 lines in the game right now. Sam is perfect for the second line with speed and toughness. Backlund is one of the NHLs best defensive forwards. Decent goaltending and a third and fourth lines that can provide decent secondary scoring and we are good the way we are! Janko is turning out what we wanted him to be and is great on the PK. Let him develop with Neal and more points will come.

Game Takes:
Flames 6 Coyotes 1

- Two goals from Hanifin and Jankowski
- Neal gets his 500th point
- Flames score three short handed goals
- Smith posts the win and almost a shut out

Smiths spray of water on Hamonic after the give away showed a lot of character. Obviously he was beating himself up over it, perfect way to get him to shrug it off.

Pretty impressed with Smith's attitude during his slump. Hopefully he is able to bounce back to last years form, as I think he is good for ther dressing room
