No they didn't. Look at the stats, anyone not named Gio, Chucky, Mony, Johhny, Lindy, and you could throw Backs in there I guess has been pretty mediocre offensively.

It's funny how last week I was being told off for not believing in our center line-up.

Poor start to the game really hurt the Flames. That and the turnovers and odd man rushes wasn't a help either. Not a good defensive effort by the team
I thought Smith played well and kept the Flames in there.

Montreal, Edmonton, Vegas, Winnipeg up next.
Real opportunity here on this home stretch. If Smith's game is back on track, we should be able to do some damage starting Thursday night.

Just saying SJ isn't an "easy win" for us or any other team in the league...Flames are tied with them in the standings after their "poor start"

Is it me or...
We play the Eastern Conference teams well
We play the Central Division teams pretty well (especially Nashville, Colorado, and maybe Chicago)
But when it comes to our division rivals? We play them bad. We'd be lucky if we dominate one of those teams on a regular basis.
Is it because they're scared of their division rivals? Or is it because the fact that they play other Pacific Division teams four to five times per season that they take some of the games for granted and decide to just go all out when they feel like it or when they have to?

Anything interesting from Peters' post-game scrum? I missed it.

Backlund, Czarnik, Neal and Jankowski need to come alive offensively obviously. Neal needs to play with someone to give him looks - he’s not getting any. Czarnik - Tkachuk seemed like they had chemistry in preseason but the lineup is a challenge. Ryan showed some jump.
The coaches need to find the right balance and chemistry down the lineup.
I think they missed Andersson on the 6 on 5. They need someone who isn’t afraid to shoot and can get it through and be dangerous. Hamonic then Brodie came on - no disrespect but shooting isn’t their forté.

I live that part of Andersson’s game. I hope he is getting PP reps in practice.

It’s the same problem Treliving identified last year when he looked at the fowards and worried about where the scoring would come from. Lindholm may be an improvement on Ferland, and Tkachuk will be better than last year, but that’s about it. Neal has to show he’s better than Brouwer and Ryan has to be better than Stajan, but so far, they’ve not met expectations.

The penalty shot by Bennett is apathetic. Poor guy should receive some counseling to regain his confidence, if there is any left.

IMO that was one of the worst penalty shot's I've seen a player attempt in a long time.

Anaheim and San Jose get both the bounces and calls at home against the Flames it seems, regardless of what iteration of the team is playing them. It's getting old.

I said this to my buddy about that shot - it was a shot taken by a guy who is so worried he is going to miss the net or fan on the puck that he didn't even try to beat the goalie.
I firmly believe he is a skilled player but the team not only needs to rebuild his confidence but also give him a green light to do some of the fancy toedrags and generally flashy play he used to do before he was asked to simplify his game. He is a very similar player to someone like Nazem Kadri but he is too busy playing a game that isn't his own because we haven't been able to put him in that position.
One thing that would help would be to keep him on the power play and give him lots of touches there on the half-wall. I still point to the December 2016 removal of Bennett from the PP as the beginning of his extended slump.

I think Cassie nailed it on the head in the broadcast, that's a shot a player takes who has zero confidence in his skill right now. I think Pre-GG Bennett would have tried something a bit fancier.
Now are we too far gone with Bennett and should we start to think about trading partners? Maybe a change of scenery would do him wonders.

To be a 3rd liner, you still would pot goals. Bennett's production is more in line with a 4th liner.
I'm really close to giving up on him now. He's improved from last season in getting chances, but it's been +20 games into the season, and he still can't convert those chances into goals. He can't really do much more than what he has at this point aside from getting penalty shots/breakaways every game to improve upon his attacks. He just doesn't have the ability to score in the NHL.
