It seems a little odd to me that most of the opposition to circumcision in this thread appears to be coming from people that aren't circumcised.
If men that are circumcised are completely happy with it, why the activism from the other side?

That is the way all of these threads go. I have ready the very occasional store of a cut dude who wishes he wasn't. I really don't care.

I'm cut and I'm opposed to it.

Meh, I'd actually turn that around and contend I'm pro leaving babies' genitals unmutilated.

None of the males in this household are circ'd. I've never asked my in-laws why they chose not to cut their sons, and I'm not about to, my mother-in-law would likely not be interested in having that conversation.
We were thinking about it when I was pregnant with our oldest, but that was right when AHS stopped covering it, so we declined the procedure due to cost at the time. I doubt any future grandsons will be circ'd - my oldest was in the ER having an injury seen to from football, and they brought a baby boy through to be circ'd (small town hospital, circumcisions performed in the "trauma" room in the ER, prior to discharge of mom/infant). He asked me what was going on since mom was clearly still a patient, so I told him I figured a circumcision was about to take place. Up to that point, he had no real opinion on the matter.
And then they started, and baby started screaming and he was utterly horrified. Vowed then and there if he had a son, it was not something that would be done to his child.
I don't see the point to them beyond medical necessity. However, that's generally as far into the topic as I go because it's not something that affects me. Knowing what I know now versus the absolute dearth of knowledge I had on the procedure when my oldest was born, if we had it to do all over again, they still would not be circ'd.

I am happy to be circumcised but I chose to let my son make his own decision.

So, why not expend the time and energy correcting prejudices as opposed to exaggerated vilification of the procedure which appears predominantly benign?
I can agree from a traditional or religious perspective circumcision is creepy and unnecessary. But after reading a tonne of the material posted in this thread it seems to me that there is no clear consensus about risks v. benefits of being or not being circumcised. I think in the end we are left with vague and highly subjective notions about aesthetics and pleasure enhancement, but until there is clear science to show one way or the other that there is a superior moral decision to be made here, I remain convinced that decrying circumcision as "abhorrent" is more than a little over the top.
I wonder if the another angle to this discussion is after the fact:
Who regrets having been circumcised at birth, and why?
Who regrets not having been circumcised at birth, and why?

I wonder if the "let my kids make the decision" crowd let their kids decide if they get vaccines or not too?

I got circumcised because I knew there was no future in starring in mainstream porn if I didn't.

One of these helps to reduce the spread of life threatening disease while the other is performed so your sons dick matches yours. You honestly think these are the same?

I don't have a penis so I don't care too much one way or the other. There are pros and cons to both. Sexually I suppose that I would prefer a well maintained and intact penis but my husband is circumcised so obviously that's fine too.
I do know that my father-in-law had to have a circumcision done at the ripe old age of 80. So a person could have that to look forward to in the future. I can't imagine it was pleasant.
I currently have no sons but if I did I would argue to leave them natural. I believe my husband would prefer to circumcise but that's a discussion we may never need to have.

I'm sure each doctor is different, but I know when my sisters were pregnant, they all went to the same doctor, and he absolutely refused to do it.
He agreed to give them the name of a doctor who would perform the procedure, but only after the baby had been discharged from the hospital after birth. I don't know how it works now, but at the time, the cost was significantly higher if it was done after the baby was initially discharged, so it was a definite financial disadvantage to doing it.
Each of my brothers-in-law had different reactions to it. IIRC, one of them got into a pretty big argument with the doctor over it and told my sister to find a new doctor, but she refused.
I don't know what they ultimately did when their sons were born.
