This is going to be the worst contract in free agency after Johnson.

That makes him overpaid not the worst bust
He had over 600 games and over 300 points
Yak has 350 and 130

Agreed ... the word bust gets used so incorrectly in my mind.

Top picks that play less than 100 games are an easy way to zero in on things. Guys that play 600 games aren't busts, they're disappointments compared to their expectations.

Flames history ...

Baertschi is probably a disappointment calgary wise, but for a 13th overall pick he is not doing terrible since he got to Vancouver. Doesn’t redraft 13th but probably redrafts as a later 1st rounder

If Yak doesn't find a spot this year, he will be a bigger bust based on both GP and points.

Those are great numbers compared to Gord Kluzak and Rick DiPietro.

Should we use a different metric in evaluating players who never approached their potential because of serious injuries? I think both Stefan and DiPietro fall into that group. Yakupov has no such excuses.

I thought we were talking about 1st over all, but yup there have been some really poor picks throughout history.

Greg Joly is another one...Terry Ryan as well. Lots of em out there.

I would add Nemisz, Irving, Chucko, Pelech to the list from recent memory. We were awful at drafting for a long time.

Saw that Ennis and Mason joined the UFA crop. Didn't want to stay at 77 players... and oops, I forgot Anthony Duclair and one or two other players... so the list is now 100 players and four tiers!

OP updated. No real news as of yet. I won't say that any players are confirmed as having signed until their signings are official.

I stayed clear of first rounders in the 20+ overall range as they don't really have a huge percentage chance of making it in the first place.

All those picks were made when the Flames were in their division winning phase.
