IMO, Frk is the perfect storm of all things Flames. Young, cheaper than almost anyone else. Is ripe for a full time slot. Fits on line #3. Perhaps clear the deck of all RW including Frolik and Brouwer. Have Lindholm, Tkachuk, Frk and Foo/Lazar as the RW depth.
Sign a legit PP guy like JVR for LW to replace Tkachuk and I think there's more blanced fw depth. I don't know. seems like a great fit honestly.

Rational thought, probably disdained by many if not most on these boards.
I recall the favorable greeting generally afforded the Brower signing. That went south when people got a look at that footspeed in comparison to what the competition was fielding. Last year people wanted Jagr. You got him. Some wanted Nash. Ask a Bruins fan how that went down. Not that some of these guys don't still have some game, but long term deals for guys 28+ won't add value unless these guys turn out to be Barry Bonds like outliers.
Better to invest some faith in our younger hands and not chase more guys with lots of tread on the tire, or other team's potential youngsters like Czarnik. Instill confidence in the system and it breeds an atmosphere of hope and desire at the AHL level. Shiny new (or old) toys aren't always as much fun to play with once they're out of the package.

Maybe not, but I think we're pretty close (on paper anyway). I think maybe one more top 6 player, a bit more depth scoring, and an improved PP should get us there.

I'd love that signing

Guy also loves to shoot on the PP. That annoying overpassing stuff the Flames have done in the last few years would probably end.

Mangiapane should be a 40 point guy at the NHL level next year and needs to at least be given the opportunity to do so.
He is going to be good.

Help, save, whatever.

Cant think of a better guy for the PP. Hes pretty automatic when hes camped out in front of the night. And his hands in tight have got to be amongst the best in the league.
I feel like he is pretty durable too. I dont remember him being hurt very often.
In the defensive end he is beyond uesless and is constantly floating and just lazy in general. So frustrating to watch.
Im talking about JVR obviously.

Highest points per game of any AHL forward last year under the age of 21 and with more than 10 games played.

With Hanafin and Lindholm what would a free agent signing do to a potential future expansion draft for Seattle? It would suck to sign someone that would force us to make tough decisions with our young core in a couple years.

Only have to worry about that if they give out a NMC, which they probably won't.

Whats the rule? 8-1? assuming this goes 2020-21
Flames FW keepers
Gaudreau
Monahan
Lindholm
Tkachuk
Backlund (NTC)
Bennett
Janko
Flames D keepers
Only Gio and Hanafin will be signed by then.
Potentially add Andersson and Kylington and Valimaki.
EDIT: and if things go they way I think they're gonna go on D. If they go 5-3-1 they expose Gio. Keep Andersson-kylington-Valimaki (unless he is exempt)
We don't have a goalie then hypothetically either. won't crystal ball that one.

What bothers me the most is that we do not have a legit RW prospect in development that is groomed or just about to take a spot on the top line. I see this as a big gaffe by our scouting/drafting people.

It was 7 forwards, 3 defencemen and a goalie
or
8 skaters and a goalie

I could see Spencer Foo taking a spot. He looked okay in his few games last season.

There are a couple. But they're long shots.

Seven forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender.
All first- and second-year professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection.

@Browna. That worked out for exactly no one. Jagr was down and out before anything could happen.
