Anyway, the Flames are terrible with 1sts. What we need to be doing is acquiring 4ths

You know some people have been driven right over the edge of sanity when they start talking about trading one of the most dynamic exciting players in the NHL on a team that struggles to score.

I highly doubt the Flames are shopping or considering moving Gaudreau... but other posters are correct in assuming that the Flames could receive a king's ransom for Gaudreau. His age, stats and contract all make him insanely valuable. BT would be a fool not to listen to potential offers. I'm a huge Gaudreau fan and fully believe he's part of the solution, not the problem, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't consider trading him if it made the Flames better.

I know this probably isn't the place for it, but I'd happily move a couple of our defencemen out (Brodie and Stone) in a package for some top-line help and/or a pick. Makes us slightly weaker on the blueline in the short term, but with a plethora of players ready to make the jump then it gets them decent playing time.

Plus it looks more attractive for Fox to sign here after next season if there isn't already a glut of prospects waiting in the wings.

Giving up the package they did for Hamonic was a very ‘Darryl-Sutter-esque’ GM move that has hurt the team much more than it helped. Those assets could’ve been much better spent getting some top 6 winger help than a low impact defensive d-man.

I assume he wants to add a first so he can trade it?

Correct, no one is truly untouchable, but some are clearly more untouchable than others.

Making a trade for a first round pick in this draft would seem like the plan for this team doesn't exist. To me it would signal that there is no overarching structure in which the team is being built.

Unless they want to go all on assault on a rebuild they aren't trading Gaudreau.

But if they want to change things up I think Hamilton is the chip that you can use to get what they need. Brodie likely can go back to playing with Gorda no and do it well.

That said if off ice circumstances with Brodie are becoming a larger factor than I think you try and get him in a better situation and move on. Although hockey wise I think you lose that deal.

Hamilton is your best bet at a first rounder. He's also just about the dumbest player you can trade.

Brodie doesn't get you a first, imo. But if you can ship him to, say, Buffalo for the 32nd pick and a 4th rounder, that's solid. Tough trade to make since I think he'll rebound under a competent coach, but (a) you want picks and (b) we need to start making room for our defensive prospects.

Trading Gaudreau at this point pretty much makes you the Oilers.

I'd be willing to bet the flames absolutely do not draft in the first round this offseason.

At most, they trade for a first only to move that in a subsequent deal to improve the current roster.

Hockey trades are going to be made, not 'for futures'. That seems like a very very safe bet.

I've never understood this mentality.

This player has never been better! So let's ship him out and hope what we get back performs.

do any teams out there think Bennett alone is worth a first round pick? that might be a hard sell.

Its Treliving.

He'll do it. We'll all be impressed. It's what he does.

If Lazar was worth a second, Bennet is worth a late first rounder still.......but was Lazar worth it.........

So if Hamonic essentially costs Brodie (or another top asset) and maybe more to get the 1st round pick that's likely not going to be as high as the Flames (Islanders) lottery pick what the heck did that trade accomplish? Seems silly. Just accept they are not picking first round and get a scoring winger instead. Treliving rolled the dice and lost and needs to accept that as trading for a first is just going to make the team worse going into next season. No way I want to give up a guy that can play like Brodie for another possible Klimchuk or Poirier.

Yes he was. Draft picks aren't nearly as valuable as this board would make them seem.

Really depends on what type of player did the scouts think was available in last years draft using a second round pick.

As for Lazar, he needs more time.....

There is no way, Flames would entertain trading Bennett for a 1st round pick..

Considering the depth of the forward is the biggest issue with the club.

Depth and lack of skill at the Right side, is basically what impacted the team down the stretch... (i.e. they can't score....)

Flames have to acquire more skill up front...

We are not a scoring winger away from being a contender. We are a couple of elite players away, and those players come in the draft.
