The OP was about things that existed in the past during people's childhoods and now dont exist anymore. The thread then turned into posting things that they used to enjoy and still exist but they no longer enjoy. I may have worded my post harshly but a lot of the posts in the thread were off the mark and speaking of lost joy in life.

Like freezies and ring pops. They tasted awesome as a kid, but now as an adult, they actually taste artificial to me. Corn Pops and CT Crunch, however, still taste fantastic.

I kinda miss having to try and beat the entire video game in one sitting, you would iterate the early levels so many times you could practically pass them in 20 seconds with your eyes closed.

Toothpick races, though it was fun watching my kids be hyper competive over random chance of how the ice flowed. But when my tooth pick was the winner consistently I felt it was inappropriate to gloat over my surperior toothpick racing skills

I remember renting games for a weekend and trying to beat them before I took them back. FFIII was my nemisis.

As someone who somehow became lactose intolerant at 18; milk. Man, I was like Jerry Seinfeld levels of obsessed with cereal back in the day. And now...
And seconded on video stores. Even if you don't agree on the movie front, renting video games was the best. Getting to see if you actually LIKE the game for a couple days before investing in it was so great. Continue your saved file from that 2 day rental when you actually buy the game soon after.

this is not true and revisionist history.
Remember how you had no control over, pretty much anything?
It would be brutal to have somebody keep telling me when I have to go to bed when I'm not tired, eat when I'm not hungry (and worse, what to eat), do my homework when I don't want to and can't procrastinate, when I can or can't see friends or do fun things. Too much video games? Shut it off. Come home by curfew... not drive a car... drink? Nope.
What about knowing when to not #### my pants?
What about just good ol' strength or the ability to feel not completely merciless all the time? What about control over your mental or emotional state?
There's a lot of awesome things to adulthood it's just you take it for granted because it's life. Hell the above was all crap just off the top of my head.

Nothing weird about that. Unless he started giving him Playgirl mags.

Are you serious? I think it's very weird that a neighbor would walk over and hand porn to some kid.
Do you normally just walk around handing porn out to friends and family? No? Then why to some kid?

It was the 70s and penthouse isn't porn. Unless you count the Forum as porn. But then you can borrow porn from the Public Library.
I liked as a kid how challenging it was to get porn. Nowadays you can just click on any site and you'll find porn. Boring.

I don’t know how Dion was getting Penthouse magazines from his neighbour when the printing press hadn’t even been invented yet.

We had to dig through the newspaper recycling bins in the Co-op parking lot to get Penthouse. Those things were awesome - a combination fort-house and porn-mine.

Not sure these things are better, but things I miss from my childhood:
-Gameboy colours. Nothing, and I mean nothing, were more serious than discussions over Pokemon trades with your friends. We used to gamble our Pokemon in battles. Everyone goes to the one kid who had a link cables house and battled and traded. 1999 was a great time.
-Road hockey every single day. Every series was best of 7, goalies called penalties (you can imagine how that went), and if someone challenged you to a fight and you agreed you weren't allowed to NOT fight.
-Minor hockey tournaments. Mini stick games in hotel hallways always pleased the staff.
-Also, mini sticks in general were just better then. Now you can get the expensive composite ones, but I still prefer the old plastic ones that you'd heat up on the stove and curve yourself.
-Doing pretty much anything after dark as a kid was a ton of fun. Don't know why, I loved playing in the dark. Usually a game of hide and seek.
-Collecting cards. I used to save up $5 and go to Dicks Collectables and buy a "jersey card". Usually a Flame, and usually was the highlight of my month.
Can't say I miss Blockbuster like some of you seem to. I used to go there a ton, and all I'd ever rent was Star Wars, but if Blockbuster was still around I wouldn't use it. Nobody would, that's why it's out of business.

Growing up in the 90s, I have to say The Simpson's.
What a fantastic show for the first 10 or so seasons.

Sounds like we lived the same childhood. Amazing. I played competetive baseball as a teen where we travelled a lot. We would have a mini bat and a tape roll ball and play in th airport waiting terminal.
Road hockey was the best. One of my friends had a large area of grass across the street from his house that was really flat and open. We would play hockey on that because it wouldn't ware down the goalie pads and we could slide and block shots. The only downfall was if you got your stick stuck in the grass when running, chances were you took the butt end in the stomach and that never felt nice.
We would play kick off (like in football) as well in that field. Two or three people on the return team and everyone else on the kick off team trying to stop the kick return; I remember getting close lined so hard one time, good times.

He was tossing a bunch in his garbage one day and I asked if I could have them. He was probably thinking at the time that it's better to give them to me as opposed to me going through his garbage. Besides it was the early 70's (no internet) and as teens we were curious like everyone else our age.
