If he does a high danger drop pass to MT and it ends up getting picked off and put into the Flames net. Everyone would be calling for his head not trying a shot at the empty net.
Option C would have probably ended up the exact same play that Smith was injured on.
It's not like Frolik deliberately missed the empty net.

Don't think this game is getting any coaches fired lol

I don't see any coaches getting canned until the offseason. If the Flames implode I can see a complete cleaning of house with our coaching staff.
I'm sure internally BT has had conversations with the coaching staff about our inept special teams but its far too late now to fire a coach(s) unless they are giving up on the season.

Firing the powerplay coach would be completely justified and not just based on this one game. It's been awful for MONTHS. They needed to make this change a long time ago.

The PP is killing this team, as everyone is aware by now. It seems to just deflate them.
Heck, at this point, I am all for putting numbers in a hat and picking out 5 random players. Change just for the sake of change often leads to just more spinning of the wheels, but in this case, I am all for it. Just mix it up somehow.
Bruins took the game over, and I feel the Flames were deflated. They had a great first period (outside of the quick goal). Bruins just started skating and got to all the pucks first, and the Flames started turning pucks over all over the place. They just got rattled tonight.
Time to regroup and hopefully finish off this road trip strong.

It really isn't.
Therrien was fired mid-February. Pens won cup that year.
Boucher was fired with 16 games left in the season by Tampa. This "training camp" allowed Cooper to jump right into the next season with a 14-5-0 start. While Cooper didn't salvage their season, it might have played a big part in a quick start the next season.
Julien (26-23-6) was fired in February last year, which is when Cassidy took over. They finished the season under Cassidy playing 18-8-1, made the playoffs, and haven't skipped a beat this year.

Powerplay cannot continue like this without changes. Cost us way to many games. Even a top 15 pp we’d be solidly in the hunt for division lead. It’s gone on enough

We don't have the luxury of having a good coach in the wings like Boston/Tampa did.

I think other teams are fine letting Johnny dipsy doodle with the puck on the PP. His shot isn't exactly a threat from up high.
I'd like to see him play down low on the PP more. The closer he is to the net the more dangerous he is.

Even in his junior days he was shown to be dangerous on the right side. Taking it down low on the right side seems to be threatening as well.
Just don't like that one spot mid way down the left side when everyone (including he) is stationary.
Either way at this point it's lunacy to keep trying the same thing over and over.

How many games with this dreadful PP before the coaches decide a change is needed? 20 games? 30 games? the rest of the season?

Yes, 1 power-play goal per game is that difficult. The 2009-10 Washington Capitals led the league with 79 power play goals, which is still less than one PPG per game. No team since then has even come close.
When you give up four even-strength goals in a game, your power play is not what caused you to lose.

I ain't even mad. The result is the realistic difference between a good team and piss poor coached team.

Forgive me if this has already been discussed somewhere... but why do the D NEVER play on their offside for a one-timer while on the PP? Both Hamilton and Gio have pretty solid shots but are never setup for a one timer. It's been driving me crazy! If anyone can provide insight into why they do this, my mental health will be the better for it

Wow Boston is vastly improved from the last time I saw one of their games, they are going to be a favorite for the cup playing like that.

Wasn't expecting a win. But the Flames fought back to tie it. They had a chance. Even the guy who announced with Rick Ball commented on how the Bruins don't sit back on leads. They keep pushing forward.
BTW I'm not sure who Ball's new sidekick is, but I enjoy him commentary. Has kind of a different voice then I'm used to hearing. But he calls a spade a spade. He's called out Bennett's dumb penalties the last few games. Called out the lacklustre PP. Called our the Flames for lack of emotion. He sees what us fans see in the growth of Matthew Tkachuk.
He's not as homerish as Hrudey and seems to see the game through a different set of eyes. I really enjoy listening to him.

they need to just pass on PP's, can they put in 2 goalies and 4 skaters instead?
The turning point of the game last night was their pathetic PP looking like a midget team, dazed an confused, bungling the whole 2 minutes and giving the momentum to Boston, leading to their second goal. After that there was no recourse, and their remaining PP's were embarrassing.
