Now it could possibly happen down the road. But at some point, you just have to consider that they have probably the best coaching in the league, unreal chemistry, and a desire to play together and win after being looked at as castaways.
Never ever doubt the power of chemistry. IMO it triumphs over even elite top end skill. A group of players that is playing for each other with a coach who has his own story of being a castaway...that is pretty powerful stuff.
And while this might sound horrible to say, I really believe the terrible shooting event at Mandalay Bay really brought the team together to start the season. Vegas strong. Again it sounds horrible, but it gave the team something to rally around and something to play for.
You can't really pick a better team for a Cinderella story then the VGK. How cool would it be to see a 1st year expansion team go on a deep run. I don't think you'll find a hockey fan anywhere rooting against them.

There are plenty of hockey fans rooting against them... you don't have to look far to find them

What's the over/under on how many knobs we'll see decked out in Golden Knights gear tonight?
Hope the Flames crush them. Vegas annoys me and I already hate them. Except Engelland. I can't hate him.

The Flames better be ready to go from the start tonight. If they come out flat, they’ll be down 3-0 before they can blink.
Vegas is one of the hardest working teams I have ever witnessed, their forecheck is relentless.

This is not at all accurate.
Go back and watch the Edmonton game if you have it on PVR. There are numerous instances where Gaudreau carried it over the line and tried to pass it back to the pointman or Monahan, and it was intercepted and sent back out.
The drop pass is a fine play that most teams use, but the Flames don't mix it up at all, and their zone entries have been pretty horrific of late as a result.

I am going by memory here (which is a bad idea at my age), but I did a quick count a few days ago and I believe the Flames have given up a lead 10 times in the last 13 games - 8 of them in the 3rd.
(Their OT record was hiding that fact until recently)

This is a key point a lot of people overlook.
Choking away a 3-1 lead but winning 4-3 in OT is worth the same 1-0-0 in the standings as playing a perfect 3rd period to hold a 2-1 lead. If we counted OT games as ties that "40-0-0 when leading after 2" stat that's been repeated ad nauseum would look a lot uglier.

Okay, just went back and checked - not quick 10 out of 13, but close. Here are their last 13 games. They blew the lead 8 times, and held on 1 other time.
(Team / lead / period / result)
SJS / 2-1 / 3rd OTL
ANA / L
CHI / 3-2 / 3rd / w (OT)
LAK / 4-2 / 3rd / W (4-3)
ANA / 2-0 / 3rd / W (16 seconds left)
MIN / 2/0 / 3rd / W (OT)
TBL / W
FLA / W
CAR / W
WPG / 1-0 / 2nd / OTL
BUF / 1-0 / 1st / OTL
LAK / 1-0 / 3rd / OTL
EDM / 2-0 / 2nd / OTL
8 blown leads
5 of them in the 3rd
Overall record in those 8 games: 4-0-4
To me, there is a huge problem here, despite the overtime Ws

They looked awful there too. Probably shouldn't have been so harsh calling people "tools" but I really don't like Vegas.

Now take those games and find the PP stats. They are often "blown" because they are only one goal leads and if they could get an extra goal on the PP, it would change things

Or, you know, you could run with that.
But yes, with a few PP goals sprinkled over those 13 games, things would be absolutely rocking right now!

I think you can immediately say that the WPG, LA and EDM games over the last 4 are all Ws if they get 1 PPG in each.

I fear after the break, this is going to be a 5-1 drubbing.
