I don’t think you can call the dome over-styled. The hyperbolic parabolic allowed for the largest free spanning roof on an arena at the time and reduced the cost. It was a design rather than an architectural decision.

I do think you can do modern looking and timeless though with going with old fashioned. I think things like the music center and public library will both age well as interesting budilings despite not being classical.

I’d like to see the arena be more modern then bmo Center looking.

Dallas' American Airlines Center is a nice example of a classic arena exterior design. Built in 2001, though aging gracefully. Something like that, though with totally modern interior amenities that enhance the fan experience.
