They just look lost on the power play. Throwing the puck back and forth around the blue line... that’s a great idea!

Well that second line needed to get the puck low. Jagr intentionally in the high slot and 3 Canucks were around him. They needed to skate or move it lower and force the Canucks to chase and leave Jagr open or the other forward. But Bennett and Matt looked for the cross ice passes which weren’t there.

New look with Tkachuk-Bennett-Jagr on the 2nd PP unit. Maybe that frees up Backlund for the 1st unit? Having both him and Gaudreau as zone entry options could be worth looking at.

Hamonic is having a real strong period. Smart plays with the puck, very involved.

Virtanen goes with the dump and chase with 1 second left. Bold choice.

Monahan must have the flu, the cold, sore throat, migraines, bronchitis, laryngitis, mumps and diarrhea, because he can’t shoot of late.

Not a bad first period. No late goal, although it was frenetic.

Fun game so far with plenty of chances at both ends. However it's a little concerning that this injury-riddled Canucks squad actually carried the play for parts of that period. Flames are playing a little too loose defensively and they're clearly still struggling to score. We need to break this open in the 2nd and pad the lead.

Someone speculated a hand injury for Monahan last game, I think they are probably right. He's been off the last 3-4 games offensively
