30 years ago, Theoren Fleury was the first Flames draft pick chosen to be Canada's captain at the World Juniors. Canada won gold that year and the Flames won the Stanley Cup the following year.
Let's hope history repeats itself.

I was just coming in to ask who was the last Captain of TC that was a Flame. Thanks!
So that is 5 confirmed Flames prospects at the WJC: Dube, Fox, Valimaki, Ruzicka, and Lindstrom.
And because Finland needs to make 1 more cut: Tuulola is probably on the team but we are not 100% sure.
BTW of the 6 Flames prospects listed above only Ruzicka is eligible to return for the 2019 WJC

1987?
That's the year of the infamous brawl isnt it? Canada was DQ'd.

You’re correct on 1987, but 30 years ago was the 1988 championship. This year’s is the 2018 championship, as that’s when the finals are played, and the champions are for the year 2018.

Ahhh...that makes a world of sense.
Something i am losing more of everyday.
I do remember that year though....pretty good club we sent to compete.
Nothing will ever top the 05 roster of course but we had some good ones back in the day.

Jarret Stoll was still a Flames prospect when he was the captain of the 2002 team.
As far as I can tell, Fleury, Stoll, and Dube are the only three Flames picks to wear the C for Canada. The other two both went on to have pretty good NHL careers (even if one of them wasn't as a Flame).

Looks like Lindstrom is starting on the top line between Pettersson and Nylander to kick things off
Boy did I forget all about Linus Lindstrom.
Congratulations to Dube. It has to be one of the coolest experiences a player can have to be captain of Canada's WJ team. Or any country, but especially this one.

A few former Team Canada captains have gone on to play for the Flames (Sarich is another). Fleury, Stoll, and Dube are the only ones who were Flames property when they wore the C.

I've felt Dube is a sure fire NHLer since last world juniors. The question is if he's got enough offensive skill to be a top line guy. Floor to me is Flames era Paul Byron - PKer and effective energy guy.
